    It's not inevitable. Create a checklist and go through it EVERY time you go out. It's not that bad and it'll keep you from leaving things at home. Like your ski jacket...

      Oh I know, and we definitely have a checklist. My kids made fun of me about this (among many other things).

        I always liked the cell phone holder with the forks to hang the plug, I still want to fab up something like that for mine.

            I never take my plug out and leave it out just to avoid the risk. I remove it to drain any small amounts of water and put it right back in.

                  Same here except for one occasion. That time, I just laid it in the the little gutter around the hatch door that I had to open to get to it. You can't close that door with the plug in the way.
