So are you saying the gaps were off .060 meaning they were open to .120 or they were basically closed? Being opened to .120 would most definitely cause issues and the spark would get "blown out" causing no combustion at times in random cylinders. Of course if the gaps were closed then I'm surprised it ran at all. I feel like you're getting closer to finding the issue... Sounds like a few different things all adding up.

just got back from the lake. Ran the lake at 20 and it was smooth sailing......even said to the wife...feels good...she agreed. after 15 min ran it up to 25 26 etc.....and the feeling came back. smooth as glass out, so not conditions. Still ran better I think, but still felt the braking. slight, but there. I do not feel it under 21....

plugs were all open about 5 lines from .060...tapped a few times to get to .060

Wonder if it is clogged injectors and when they get closer to 100% duty cycle they can’t supply enough fuel?

What rpms are you seeing. Was reading the MEFI repair manual and if limp mode is activated you can run full power to 2500 rpm, if that is exceeded it will cut fuel to half the cylinders till rpm reduced under 1200, then you have full power.

            https://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/billa...(L510005P).pdf

Might give this a read to see if it helps find your problem. Not too sure why pirate4x4 has a boat manual archived, but it is a nice clear copy.

ag....I was thinking the same thing....I cleaned some years ago...wasn't to bad after making the ac current rig.......have thought that might be the next cheapest start.

Guages come on and off during use........I never look at the rpm because its the worst gauge out of all of them. throttle has never been all the way down with me.......I will give this a read when my coffee kicks inP

The gauges sound like a bad gateway box. Can’t help too much there since my ‘02 has a totally different gauge system. From what l have read, if I was in your position l would probably rewire the dash and go with the replacement faria gauges for the ‘00 - ‘02 boats. I replaced my functioning teleflex gauges with the newer faria and like them a whole lot better, but the gauges ran just under $800, not including wiring etc. on yours you would have to intercept the sensor signals to use the conventional gauges. It might be better to find a new gateway box if ou can actually find one. Or try and have yours fixed.

Well sir, it sounds like you’re making progress and learning a lot along the way. Glad you don’t need to change cutlass bearing now. So, have you seen beyond 30mph yet? You said all good for 15min so just wondering if you have seen what your boat should be capable of. Do the problems start after 15min or so or just get worse?

good question homer..........was sort of up around 30......after 21 it just seems to get a little funky.....not out of control or backfiring or anything like that....just not smooth sailing. YES I AM LEARNING A LOT...thanks to everyone...I do appreciate it. I was thinking about cleaning the injectors next. I did it last year on a jet ski....wasn't too bad once I got them out.

AG ....I know the facia issue.....just have wanted to do anything there yet with the $.......was hoping to get this baby running top soon first

                    Thank you gentleman.

If you don’t have a reliable tach I would suggest getting a cheap one from the auto store. You will have a grey wire behind the dash for tach signal. This should be the only grey wire not connected to anything, or if you have perfect pass it will run to the master module. This was put there for perfect pass installation. Just wire the temp one in so you can do trouble shooting. Best to know exactly what rpm you are seeing when the problems arise.

just remember, if you disconnect one gauge all those in the dash after that one on the wiring harness won’t work at all. So I suggest just using long wires and setting the temp tach in a cup holder for diagnostics.

if you have perfect pass, then you can look at rpm with that gauge. Also, if you have perfect pass, a bad servo can cause you to have limited throttle.

mmmmmmmmmm....ok...lots to think about.....let me soak this in. I do have the PP. haven't used it at all. Heard it could mess things up....so just going old school. Are you saying I should hook up the rpm so I can see where it starts to bog? wasn't sure if you thought I should be hooking up temp. Temps been good. Thats why I was asking......sorry to be a pain

Think he meant temp as in temporary....

I would follow age4ever advice and simply use perfect pass. Perfect pass will give you an accurate reading on your RPMs. You can then match your actual tack gauge to see if it matches the perfect pass reading. This would be a simple way to rule out a faulty tack gauge. Just so we’re clear, the word “bog” to me means a sudden loss of total power. Is this what you’re experiencing? An actual bog would lead me to believe it’s more of a fuel/ fuel injector/ fuel filter issue.

Funkster.....no bogging at all......the feeling you get when you pull a tuber occasionally holding back a little....like a skier pulling outside the wake........but obviously with no skier and on glass I am feeling it. D

Gentlemen.......cleaned all 8 injectors........ran the boat yesterday..........did NOT solve the issue. Also noticed that I could find a sweet spot with the throttle occasionally and it would run really smooth.
Two things came to my mind yesterday.......is there a in-line full filter I am not seeing.....clogged?
or what about this anti-syphon idea? Someone said something once I think about bees clogging it up?

Still pulled skiers yesterday ....no problem......I did pull tubers too and I felt it acted up more with the resistance.

I have one more trip coming up.....boat works, but I would sure love to nail this thing down, I can't seem to think its something big.
