Thanks for the comments on the H6 vs ZR4. I ordered the H5 and was wondering more specifically how the H5 would do on the 230 vs the H6. The 230 is a rather light boat compared to the G's. There's a good chance I may have 800lbs of lead, and 6 adults in the boat, we have pro ballast too. At the altitude would the H5 do it? Kylant, I noticed the Sparks dealership had a 230 with a H5, never got to test that at altitude. Wonder if you did? We don't waterski but would want to empty the tanks and get across the lake quickly if there's a storm. The dealer said it wouldn't make much of a difference with the H5 vs H6, only a couple MPH.

...also, I could maybe still switch to H6. I wonder if the H6 could perform well enough without changing the prop too? That seems like a hassle and it's about a $1000 for another prop. I could factor that cost against the $6000 upgrade for a better motor (H6 vs H5).

Hurley,
The 230 obviously has a different hull design. I have been told it is more efficient and planes quicker. I demoed the 230 with ZR4 on Folsom. It had plenty of power. I also ran my GS20 on Folsom and it too had plenty of power. The power difference was dramatic compared to running on Tahoe.
I don't know if the H5 loaded down like you describe would be enough motor. It may be, but I just don't know. I have never been in a boat with the H5.
For me, I knew I wanted the biggest motor because of my experience with the ZR4. My boat runs on Tahoe 95% of the time.
The best would be to demo an H5, but obviously at this time of year, that is not an option.
Props run $500, and take about 10 minutes to change, not 1K
