Im trying to figure out the stern drains purpose. The port and starboard drains are for ballast and bilge draining. As long as I have owned my boat I have never seen these stern drains in action. The reason I ask is becuase I was planning on installing dripper guards on port and star board drains and didn't want to put them on the stern drains if they had no purpose or use. Picture for visual.

I have never ever seen through hulls in that location. Is there a chance that this is an aftermarket thing, on your boat?2018 SAN G23 XR550

On Nautique Owners on Facebook I learned they were in the Coastal Edition which I have. The purpose is so over the bow water goes to bow floor drain and ultimately exits out the stern drains to keep salt water out of the bilge area . My other question is how could sea water do any damage to the bilge area be any different then sea water going into the ballast tanks which indeed occurs as well as salt water through the water ballast pumps . I just don’t grasp the concept or purpose . Just seems sort of pointless . If someone has any insight, please chime in

Ballast water goes through the pumps into rubber bags inside hull and back out the same route. Never touches anything in the bilge.
Water directly in bilge can touch nearly anything that runs the boat including engine, transmission and electrical. Good to keep salt water clear of it as much as possible.
Clever design.

ok, i am dumb how does over the bow water get pumped up and out the back without going thru the bilge?
It does seem kind of pointless...you go boarding in seawater and your board drains in the boat over the boat side etc...i don't see how you keep seawater out of the bilge...nice idea though...

Nothing new and actually a great idea for salt water boats. MC has been using similar drains in the Salt Water series boats for over 10 years.
The reason for these drains in the Coastal Edition is you are much more likely to take a large wave over the bow in the ocean than in a lake. It allows large amounts of water to drain quickly with out overwhelming the bilge and bilge pumps.2007 Malibu Wakesetter 23 LSV, 1995 Cobalt 200
