GoFundMe for watersports ambassador fighting cancer

I want to introduce you guys to Kevin. Kevin is one of the best promoters of all watersports that I know. I’ve known Kevin now for 6 years. I met him on the lake and he has become so much more than just a lake friend.

4 years ago he went in for his scheduled colonoscopy just before turning 50 years old. He was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer. Over the past 4 years he has fought battles and won battles. He just can’t seem to kick it permanently. It soon spread to his lungs and after fighting that it spread to his liver. He’s been through countless surgeries and too many chemo treatments to count. After his most recent surgery, he was told he would likely be on regular chemo treatments for the remainder of his life.

Kevin has been on the water since his early 20s. He quickly became addicted to barefooting and pursued it very hard. He was rewarded by winning tricks at nationals in ‘97. When I met Kevin, I had never attempted to barefoot. He took me from my first footing session on the boom all the way to back deeps in 2 years. I credit most of that to him and a little bit of it to my stupidity. Of course he would never take credit for that. He has helped me with restoring my last 2 boats. His wife, Amy, and I always laugh about how good he is at spending other people’s money!

Over the last couple years between Kevin’s surgeries and chemo battles, I’ve introduced Kevin to wakeboarding and surfing. He has come to love surfing. His dream is to buy his own wakeboard and surf boat...as his Barefoot Sanger doesn’t quite do the trick! We have put together a GoFundMe without Kevin knowing to help raise some money so we can surprise Kevin and make that dream a reality! If you would like to be a part of this dream coming to fruition, please visit the link below. And if you know Kevin, which I know a few of you do, please do not mention this to him as his is unaware of this.

Thank you for taking the time to read this story. I’ve posted some pictures of Kevin below!

I know this post didn’t get really any attention, but an update just incase anyone scrolls through and takes the time to read.

Over about a 2 month period we raised just over 20k for Kevin and his family! The GFM page had over 100 different donators and we couldn’t be more excited! This thing really took off more than any of expected it to. We surprised Kevin with the news of this fundraiser and the money donated in late September. It caught him totally off guard and he was absolutely dumbfounded at how we made this happen. There were so many different emotions all in about 15 minutes time. Confused, mad, dumbfounded, happy, thankful, ecstatic, etc...

Now the search for a boat was on, just like it had been for the last couple years, except this time with a slightly higher price range a wife more willing to give him the checkbook . After 2 very long weeks of scouring the internet he finally narrowed it down to 3 different boats. After Lee at DFW Inboards in Fort Worth caught wind of Kevin’s story, he wanted to be a part of this amazing story. Lee and I chatted for about an hour one evening and he knew he had to be the guy to supply Kevin with the boat of his dreams! Luckily, one of the boats Kevin narrowed down to happen to be one fresh on the market at DFW Inboards. Lee bent over backwards for Kevin and made him a deal he couldn’t pass up. We drove down mid October and picked the boat up from Lee and Kyle. These guys at DFW Inboards are great dudes and happen to be partial to the Nautique’s, even though they sell all brands of wake and ski boats.

Thank you everybody who made this happen for Kevin and thank you DFW Inboards for getting him in the right boat at the right time!
