We have a new 2019 g23 arriving next month, I have been on a 2017 g23 and was very impressed with the surf wave and the wakeboard wake, but is there any recommendation for added ballast or adjustments to make it even better?

for wakeboarding, just add weight equally to each rear locker, and the bow. you could go as little as 200 pounds in each spot, all the way up to whatever your boat will handle. the wake will just continue to get bigger and harder. you'll most likely want to have about 150 more on the port side to adjust for prop pull.2018 SAN G23 XR550

To make surf wave better I’ve added two 200# bags under the mid seats (1 port and 1 starboard) and a 350# bag under the bow seats. Each mid bag is on its own pump and switch, and the bow is on its own pump and switch. With these three bags filled on top of the full factory ballast it increases the wave height a bit but definitely adds noticeable push when surfing. 200# of lead weight in observer seat compartment to offset prop.

I purchased a 2017 this year. We find the goofy side as not as clean and port side. There is a notable ridge (step) in the steep section of the wake. Is there a way to smooth out that transition ?

Put 200 pounds of lead bags mid-ship on the port side. Ride it and have fun. No lie, this is really all you need. I think that people sometimes get a little carried away trying to add a bunch of weight.
The more you mess with weight on the G, the more you can mess up the surf wave. If you do add more weight, bias more towards the front. It does not need more in the back for surfing - especially since that is where people tend to sit more.
For wakeboarding specifically, the above is pretty huge. If you want to go bigger, add evenly front to back.
We run 200 in the rear lockers, 200 mid port side and 200 up in the bow - Leadwakes. With a few people the wakeboard wake is enormous and the surf wave is great. I will probably remove most of the weight from the rear lockers eventually and put it more mid to front.Last edited by blueroom; 08-30-2018, 02:51 PM.

I generally ride with a big crew and actually prefer the wake when the boat has 4-6 people in it over 10-12.
The engineers did an amazing job with the hull, NSS and NCRS. Let it do it's thing and give you the best wake/wave on the market.
*The one caveat is the 250-300 lead I store on the Port side to clean up prop wash.Last edited by Kmayotte; 08-30-2018, 03:44 PM.

Has anyone experienced a dealer denying warranty due to aftermarket ballast? I have been hesitant to add any lead even for eliminating prop wash. no, they shouldn't hold extra ballast against you. the boat is rated for an additional 2500 pounds, above the 2850 stock ballast. that weight could be people, lead, water, 45 barbell plates...whatever.2018 SAN G23 XR550
