hi guys just received my g23 2019. In love with the boat. No bias best boat in the industry! When can I start to load the boat w/ ballast to surf and wakeboard? I’m following PCM orientations and I put 5 hours already in the boat. Any feedback is appreciated! Best

Unless youÂ’re talking about REALLY loading it, like beyond the 17 passengers weight, you have nothing to worry about. Go full stock ballast with a crew, youÂ’ll have plenty of Wake and wave. Main thing is to vary the speed, which surfing and boarding are good for. And get it up to full rpms periodically per the manual.

Break in procedures are an enigma. Although these engines are all basically the same, with pistons, rings, cylinders, etc, even compared to cars, the break in procedures are vastly different. Even the owner's manuals say different things. Some gearheads who know a lot more than I do will likely chime in, often with opposing opinions. Some will say drive it like you stole it on day 1, others will say no ballast until X number of hours, and some mfgs even say to NOT get it up to full RPM for the first while.
Here is what your owner's manual says, which is what you should actually do. My interpretation is to do what they say for the first 5 hours, then run it like you normally would, unless you sit idling for gobs of time, or have that surfer or wakeboard friend who rides for 20 minutes straight without falling.

For the first 5 hours break in the engine as prescribed in the manual. Avoid prolonged time at any fixed RPM or idle (regularly vary the throttle). We start surfing at 5+ hours. I change the oil between 6 and 10 hours. I've done this with 4 G23s putting 150 to 250 hours on each without issue.

I always just follow the manual. However, I've been told by more than one gear head that one trip from 0 to WOT and back to 0 seats everything. Anything further is just putting on hours, ensuring no out-of-the box bugs.'08 196LE (previous)
