US Buyer - CDN Seller through dealership - Sales Tax Debacle

Looking for current information if any US buyers have recently purchased a Nautique from a Canadian (preferably Ontario) dealership.

I have essentially sold my 2015 SAN 210. I am selling it through PRIDE as a convenience sale to save on taxes towards my next boat.

The buyer is from the US and PRIDE is proposing that they need to charge full HST on the sales transaction and then the buyer can later apply for a tax refund.

I have heard other US buyers say that they did not pay any sales tax as they had filled out export papers to allow a waive of the taxes.

Any info appreciated - especially if any of these documents are easy to locate.

    Thanks!

I don't know the answer, but as an American, I would be highly skeptical that I would pay Canadian taxes and then be able to get a tax refund. Every state is different here, but in my state, I would then pay sales tax again when I registered the boat.

Not quite the same situation, but I have bought a boat from a different province, and as an Alberta resident I didn’t have to pay PST or HST. I merely showed them my Alberta drivers licence and the dealer waived the tax.

Ontario is a gongshow because they still have the HST if im correct? most provinces have GST / PST, with some having only GST. Ive purchased multiple boats outside of my province and they only ever charged me GST, because the buyer is from out of province they are not required to collect the PST. then when I register the boat and after a year of having it registered the Provinicial government send me a bill for the PST!! greedy bastards. A US buyer MAY have to pay the GST 5% but under no circumstance should they ever have to pay the PST. If buying PRIVATELY they would pay zero tax but a dealership may be required to collect the GST as the boat is being purchased in there country.

Thank you for your comments. This issue was resolved with Pride Marine determining they could waive the taxes with proof of exportation. I think this got a little stickier than normal simply because they were performing a convenience deal for my previous boat. All done now. Thanks again.
