    Nautique Excel or 2001

I'm going to be looking for a older Nautique in a few months and was wondering about both of these boats. I really like the v-drive layout on the Excel, but was wondering about the wake? Can the Excel put out as good of a wake as the 2001 when weighted? If it's even close I would go with the Excel.

    Thanks,
    Brian

I can help here....family has a 2001, great wake when weighted with people and fat sacs, but very cramped......I have an excel which I am just now sorting out the wake. with just 5 adults in the boat, the wake is excellent, I would say equivelant to the 2001, and I anticipate an even better wake with V-drive sacs and a weighted front. Either way you go, a great wake is possible, comfort is the only issue. The Excel is so much larger then the 2001..good luck

i have the 1991 barefoot nautique which is the same boat as the excel...just a bigger engine (454). I use a 450 lbs. fat sac under the closed bow and another 800 lbs. in the rear. the wake is great and the room inside the boat is worth the boats weight in gold.

A friend of mine has a 2001 and it is not comfortable at all with such little room to move around.

The "Barefoot" was just a sticker package, big block was just an option but those who bought the boats intending to actually barefoot got the big blocks.

Should I look for a big block or does it matter?

From my limited experience the Excel NEEDS to be propped right and have the motor built (or find the big block) to handle a weighted boat. Its a bit doggy.

Also, for a comparable wake, it does need to be weighted front and rear.

Great boat though, good luck finding one......they are a tough score.

I had a 92 Barefoot with a 351 in it. I loved that boat. I used 210lbs up front and a fat sac on both sides of the motor. It had a fantastic wake. oddly, it has the same wake as the old direct drive barefoots, which is a great tricking wake for boarding. Put a tower on it and you effectively have a "Super Bare Nautique"
The only down side is that they only have one skeg underneath, so when heavily weighted it is a bit hard to handle on turns, etc..... I am sure a different rop would help.

Good luck and Have fun !!!

Yeah, the big block is so nice. We found a diamond in the rough with this boat and I was looking for about a year and a half. We also put a new 4 blade prop opn this year which has made a difference in the performance while weighted down.

I have a 1991 Nautique Excel for sale. Only 300 hours on the clock. I bought the boat with 20 hours on it in 1992, so I consider myself the original owner. I'm located in Aurora, OH (near Cleveland and Akron). Please send me an e-mail if you're interested in this boat. Scott [sdirwin@adelphia.net]

How does the wake compare to the super air?

Ha. The SUper Bare wake is steep, and launches you really well. See above for how I weighted my old one. I loved that boat. The Super Air is a better all around wake. The Barefoot was better fro people who wanted to ski, the SUper Air really is nota good slalom boat, in my opinion. All depends on what you want , and what you want to pay for one.
