What are your aspirations? Are you a Goofy (right foot forward) or Regular (left foot forward) rider? Do you want to skim or surf?

Here are two looks at skim and surf. This first video is a good intro to a skim board. P5 Hammerhead is a very good and popular skim board. Most skim tricks are rotational and in a relatively fixed space. https://youtu.be/sVx6u9AMJTM

Surfing on the other hand is a slashing and speed based sport. Here is my son doing a video for his board sponsor on a surfboard. https://youtu.be/qkYnDPCtSN0

I also should say that many people go from skim to surf before settling into one sport. So its important that the boat be capable of producing both types of wave. A skimmer wants a flatter wave because the skim board has a very wide middle which allows it to ride high with very little drag. A surfboard rides lower in the water and requires a more powerful wave. The NXT might be OK for skimming but not for surfing, especially on the regular side.

For myself, I don’t have enough experience to pick one over the other. I just know I want to stay up on the wave, on any type of board and I don’t it to be a huge struggle. The wave should be good enough and have enough push. (I know it’ll take work to learn) but to be able to do boat would be great because I’ll have friends who do both. Eventually I’ll like to do tricks and stuff and the farther back I can ride the better. Again, for the money I want to spend, I won’t get the big 23 foot boats, having only MC and Nautique to choose from, and I’m okay with that.

How would you rate the 210 as far as surfing? We won’t ski or wakeboard behind it and have about 5-7 people max, most of the time.

Given your choices, in my opinion the 210 would be far and away the best option. Its wave is much stronger than both other boats and you can soften the wave if you ride skim by reducing the rear ballast and running NCRS 1 or 2.

It’s a great surf boat for sure will be great for you and your crew of 5-7. May be a little tight with 7 but definitely can do, will be real comfortable with 5.
As far as the surf wave it’s got a nice shape to it with good amount of push. The storage is plentiful and the boat has a great layout drives well and is a good size. I personally love the 210’s. I honestly don’t think you will be disappointed at all.

My personal opinion is that the gs20 surfs better out of the box than the 210 (even w/ pro ballast).

I was told by the dealer that the 210 would be a better boat for surfing because it was designed for that specifically. They said the GS20 would donfine but out of the two the 210 will make a better surf wave. I’ve got a 210 designed and ready to order in the next couple of days. If the GS20 would surf as good as the 210 I would order the GS20. Sure I’ll be happy with either, just want the best SURF boat for the money. Mainly because we do not wakeboard or ski.

I don’t agree with your dealer. The 210 Hull is an older mold. It throws a good wakeboard wake and can give a decent surf wave, but not specifically designed for surfing. The GS20 mold was made in 2017, it was designed specifically for surfing and skiing. I owned a gs20 and a 210 with pro ballast. I think they are close in wave size but the gs20 profile is a bit better imo. Plus I think the layout in the gs is a bit better along with storage. You won’t be disappointed in the gs, it’s there anyone else out there with a gs that can vouch?? I think evening shade has one. Also, with another 700# of lead in the gs, the wake is monstrous!!

This is my wife just hanging out on our 210 wave with just my 6 and 8 year old in the boat with me. Stock weight with pro ballast and that’s all. As you can see, port side wave is pretty dang long and clean with very little effort.

That's a really nice, clean wake for nothing but stock/pro ballast. Are you considering adding additional ballast?

400’s are coming out and 750’s going in and 500 pounds of lead weights scattered around. This should bring us up a little over 3000 pounds ballast which is what we ran in our last 210. It just gets bigger with weight but stays great shape and very clean.
This photo is a bit more clear.

Forgive me for my ignorance..... so you’re replacing the rear bags with 750 lb bags? Is the picture before or after the bag swap and added lead?

These photos are with just stock pro ballast, so 400 pound sacs in rear compartments and stock hard tanks. Very little weight in the boat to get that wave.

And yes, I have 750 pound sacs from my last 210 I am putting in this boat. With that much rear weight it will want a bit more forward and midship weight so I will use the lead bags for that. They take up little to no room.

Wow! Huge help seeing the picture! I’’m now deciding between the GS20 and the 210. I’ve never owned a boat and only tried to surf once (own a couple of jet skis though) so not sure I would even know the difference. How’s the interior room/space? That’s my only other reservation. That being said, I would only have 5-7 people in it most of the time. Is it comfortable with that many people?
