With the stock 17x17 prop it’s 39mph. Prop it differently and you could probably get 42mph and still have decent acceleration with stock ballast. There are threads on prop changes you can search.

Agree with the babying comment above. Oooh....40 mph and I'm scared. Jesus guys...its 10 more miles an hour faster than my neighborhood speed limit. I know guys that can almost kayak that fast...LOL. Just push the throttle all the way down every once in a while...you might just smile. Also .....I know what these boats are used for ....but ****...its a shame a boat with 550 horse power only does 42 miles an hour. Jesus...I wish Nautique would give us at least 50-52 with the bigger motors. What sucks is I can barely barefoot behind my G 21....because the dang thing only does 40. I need about 45 to relive the glory days.

I am amused at the assumption that my decision to cruise back to the dock at the end of the day is based on fear of speed or worry of damaging the boat. Both assumptions are wildly inaccurate but I suppose that is the “joy” in having a platform to voice those assumptions freely. You bought your boat, use it the way you want. I’d rather get my speed fix with my race car rather than my tow rig
