Need a Mechanic in Ontario to work on my Nautique

Tried the dealer in the area: Pride of Muskoka....

so I need to find another shop that can work on this boat... 1990 SN 196 pcm 351w. stocker.

any recommendations or suggestions on how to find a good marine mechanic. There aren't that many older inboards in central ontario so its tough finding someone who knows what they're doing with these pcm's - in my experience.

    thanks,
    MD

    Ontario

I wish I could help out. I have a 97 SN in eastern Ontario. So far we have not had any major issues. I would suggest going to any marina that deals with inboards. Buckeye in Bobcaygen might be able to help you out as well. They deal MC but I am sure the mechanic would work on your PCM.

Let me know if you find anyone good because I am sure at some point I will need a Mechanic as well.

    Thanks,

    Sean

hey Sean thanks for the quick reply.

I was thinking about buckeye they are close to me, but I was concerned with the fact that MCs don't use pcm motors.

      I will call them.

anyone else deal with a good mechanic in Ontario?

i have someone in the niagara area, but if you are in cottage country, port stanfield marina deals with MB boats who also use pcm motors. i assume their mechanics would be familiar with older pcms. the main thing is you are dealing with an old ford engine so i would assume that supra dealers who service fords might help out too (old supras had fords too). what is the trouble your having?

You can see my thread on here regarding 1990 nautique low oil pressure. I may need a rebuild, but that is only from recommendations on here so I need someone to look at it that knows what the heck they are doing and has the time to pull the motor and swap out the core.

Pride of muskoka is a joke; took them 2 months to look at my boat for a poor idle problem. it came out with a new tranny and it still didn't idle for ****. They obviously didn't want to work on it, but I had little choice at that time because it went in for a summerization, a new muffler (which is why it went there being an OEM only part), and to fix the idle problem. They told us the idle problem was caused by the tranny being dusted and stalling out the motor...

I love this boat for what it is, but there are not many people around here that want to work on it. I don't care if its some guys garage; as long as they know what the heck they're doing and are willing to put the time and effort in. I am a good person to deal with if you're straight up, but you can ask pride of muskoka how difficult it is when you F&*k me! I went straight to the top = pres of that company and CC!!! Correct Craft was more than helpful considering its a 16 year old boat... but I will never deal with that marina ever again for anything; so that means I will never buy a new correct craft in ontario, which probably means I'll never buy a new correct craft (can't afford it anyways and they know that)... but I love them and think they are the best made inboards on the market, just nobody to fix it.

sorry for the rant... I will try a supra dealer... Anyone know of one in central ONT?

            I could not agree more!

Since the majority of people on this site are in the US I wanted to just let you know I have never had any good service from Pride of Muskoka Marine either. We have tried to order several different items from them in the past few years for our 97 and it will either take months to arrive or the price is insane. We have given up and just order from SkiDim. It is too bad Pride is the only CC dealer in Ontario, they have a great selection of boats if you want to buy a new one but go in for service on a used one that was not purchased there and I think they just put you on the back burner.

I wish I could help you out more, central Ontario is not my area. I do know of two in Eastern ontario (Belleville - Trenton Area) one is called J &P Marine they will work on any inboard. The other is Bay Marine in Trenton, they are a Moomba Dealer. You could also look for anyone that works on Ford engines.

            Good Luck

            Sean

RE: I could not agree more!

thanks Sean, what have you had done there? quick turnaround? do you think they would be competent to do a rebuild? how are their prices?

how does a $75 impeller sound...

try $90 for my new 210, it is crazy and i avoid pride. so you talked the paul nickles eh? i have someone here and myself that can do the job if necessary, low oil pressure is a bad sign and with the # of hour on that thing it might be time for a rebuild

you're responding to a nearly 20 year old post and that guy hasnt logged in for 7 years that person may not be much help.

im in NOTL, and do all my own work. depending on where you are in niagaram, Gould in Virgil may be able to help. they know old motors. otherwise there is scotty who does hustler mowers, scottys son has done deep engine work on malibu's.

where do you boat? we usually launch out of queenston.
