    potential nautique owner...

Hey everyone, Im embarking on the adventure of buying my first non I/O boat...I'm looking at a 2002 Super Air Nautique.

Can anyone tell me how these boats (i know the hull is the same as far back as the 95 Super Sports) handle rough water?

I mostly ski on a fairly big lake (Possum Kingdom Lake..it's in Texas) and its known to get a bit choppy. Like I said, all I have ever known are I/Os with V hulls...

Does anyone frequently experience water coming over the bow while in rough water?

Does anyone have anything bad to say about the boat?

    All comments are really appreciated!

    thanks,
    dave

    Dave,
I have a 2004 Super Air Nautique and like it very much. I have never had a problem with water coming over the bow of the boat. As far as rough water goes it rides OK I had a 1998 Tigé 22V before this boat and it handled rough water better, it was a heavier boat and that is probably the main reason. The only bad thing I have to say about the boat is the lack of cup holders. This may sound crazy but coming from the Tigé where there was a cup holder anywhere you sat this is something my family has noticed. Good luck with your boat search and see if you can test the boat on a weekend then maybe you can find some good water to ride behind and some rough water to see how you feel it handles it.

I had a 2002 super air. I live near lake travis so I definitely encountered some rough water on the way to devils cove. It did just fine. No water over the front at all. The cup holders are an issue for some. You can easily add some others if you want though. We never had too much of a problem. There are only 5 in the cockpit though. The only complaints I have about the 02 is the manual valves for the ballast. In 2001 and 2003 they had the valves in a lot better location. In 01 though you lose some ballast and some room on the inside. 2003 is still probably the best year of the team. But really the valves are the only difference between it and the 02. Good luck on your search.

i bought a SAN for the ride, my last boat was a malibu and it was rough

i have a small lake where i ride, but we like to hang and party on lewisville and texoma and the boat does just fine---but with any inboard you can't get in a hurry in rough water, 25-30 mph it will ride nice

i think the 210 will do fine at pk, but i think you will want the ballast empty out there when traveling, my vlx handled it pretty decent out there last year, guess I will find out how my 210 will handle pk next month

I'm using a 01Super Air Nautique, a great boat, Once you master it, can handle rough water w/out problem, My complain is it lack of a center sac for the ballast system.

Boat is great! I LOVE my '03 and have no current plans to jump boats.

Ride in rough water is nothing to write home about.....relatively speaking of course. The fact is, inboards ride rough. You can get on top of the rough water and thus no water over the bow.... Nevertheless, it is going to be a rough ride. I try to follow my friends with bigger I/O's when traveling through rougher water. My wife HATES riding in our boat in rough water and readily reminds me that she wanted a bigger Cobalt.

I am a huge CC fan, but if your primary use for the boat is going to be skiing....the SAN may not be the "best" boat for you. Note, the SAN is the best boat for me at this point in my life, but if I were primarily being towed around on a hippy stick, I probably wouldn't own one..... Just one mans opinion.

thanks everyone for all the good feedback! i am going to test drive/ride/ski the one i have been eyeing on thursday.

im glad to hear that the rough water shouldnt be an issue as well. i dont really mind if i cant blast around the rough water at 40 mph, cuz that only burns up tons of gas.

i have always wanted an awesome wakeboarding boat that can double as a recreational ski boat. The V-drive is where its at, IMO.

thanks again for the good input...if the test drive goes well, hopefully i can tow that monster up to my little cottage on PK this weekend!!

                keep the comments coming!

Yeah, with a Correct Craft (up until '06), they are going to back to the left no matter what. That's just the way inboards work.

Your oil filter should be a Motorcraft FL-1A.
