Ski Nautique 196 locker hard to close

I have an 02 ski 196. From what I can tell Nautique only had this rear trunk locker mechanism from 02-03 before they went to a manual locking rear trunk.

The problem I have is most of the time when I go to shut it, it springs back open.

Anybody dealt with this?

We have that happen at times with ours, but have not had it irritate is enough to replace any parts. We just hit the release button a couple of times, then shut the lid.

I haven’t tried that. I almost never use the electronic button to release it.

You need to take the cover off the latch mechanism and clean it as best as possible. Gently spray some silicon lube on the pivot points and exercise. Do not use grease. You should be good to go.
