Need help with gas filling issues

This is my first post, but I have been following this forum for some time. It was a big reason I decided my first boat purchase last fall was going to be a Nautique. I bought a 2018 SAN 210 at the end of last year that had 20 hours on it. However, I have been having some issues with the fuel system and thought I would turn to all of you for advice.

The biggest issue is with filling gas. I have to trickle the gas in at the slowest speed possible or the gas will back up and overflow. It takes over a minute to get a single gallon of gas in the tank, and took me over 30 minutes to fill up today. This has been an issue since I bought the boat. I have tried opening both caps, but not having any luck. Does anyone have any ideas/advice?

Second, I am having additional issues with my gas gauge. It seeems to stick. It was registering 0 when I started filling. It would sit on 0 for a long time, then jump to 25. It seems to stay at a number then make a big jump. Then while boating today, it seemed to continue to get stuck at 100. After a while, it would jump to what I thought should be close. Then later jump back to 100 for a while.

I love my new Nautique, but filling gas and the gauge are extremely frustrating. I mentioned it to the service department when it was being winterized last fall and they said they checked and didn’t see any problems. I am new to Wakeboats and Nautique, so I don’t know if I am making a Noob mistake. Any thought or advice would be appreciated. Thanks,

Does your 210 have gas filling caps on both sides? Both port and starboard sides?

if so... open BOTH sides’ fill cap when you fill, both wide open. Allows the air to escape out the other side.

although it isn’t necessary on the Gs, I still do it because right when you are at full, and still filling, the blowback of gas, spray and vapors is less violent for that one second till the pump kicks off on its own, spraying a little gas down the side. You can try to listen for the fill pipe gurgling... but it seems the inevitable screaming loud motorcycle or guy blaring his stereo makes it hard to hear sometimes.

NYRyan, thanks for the reply. Yes, I have filling caps on both sides and have tried to fill with both open and closed. There is no difference when the other side is open or closed. I still have to trickle the gas in. I have also tried filling on both sides, and neither is noticeably better than the other side.

Then I would recommend you treat this as a warranty claim. If it’s as slow as you say, that is neither normal nor acceptable.

everything fuel system related is treated as a fairly high priority service claim... Nautique doesn’t want its owners wrenching on the fuel systems.

I agree with Ryan. You need to let your dealer look at it. Is it slow to fill from either side? I wonder if the hoses between the gas cap and the gas tank could be kinked? Also, there is some sort of one way valve or filter spliced into the hose between gas cap and tank that could be faulty. The fuel tank vent hose could be obstructed as well. Any of these things should be warranty items.

I’ve not had this issue with my G23 however I did have the problem with one of my old boats one year...spiders got in to the vent tube and clogged it up. The solution was simple...we just cleaned it out with a pipe cleaner. Not sure if that is your issue but thought I would suggest it since it is simple.

On my first G if you jammed the nozzle all the way in it created enough back pressure that it tripped the cut off. I found backing it out an inch or so helped align things so that didn’t happen.
