Ceramic coatings

Have any of you invested in ceramic coatings for the inside and outside of your boat? My detailer is offering it now and it seems pricey but if it really performs as advertised, then maybe it is worth the money.

We haven’t done it on the boat, however I know in the high end car world it is a huge service and seems to be legit.

I agree it’s big in the car industry. Looking for those that have put it in the gel coat and also interior vinyl.

I had it applied to my boat when it was new, I don't know if it has made any difference since I'm pretty anal about wiping it down and storing it in a garage. However, it did come with a warranty for the vinyl, that in itself was worth the money to me.

My boat sits on the lift every day as we live in Florida on the lake. it is covered but the sun hits it directly in the morning and afternoon as well as all the reflected light during the day. I take good care of it as well but a yearly wax is a must. If ceramic would eliminate the need for waxing.................then that would be a win for me.

I put it on my truck last summer. It looked great at first, but there is also a lot of prep that goes into applying.

Long-term, no noticeable difference between the ceramic coating and a good detail - other than price.

On a previous post I called it snake oil. : ) Maybe there are benefits to some, and maybe sealing up the gel coat helps in certain applications, who knows.

I would really recommend you look into adding sun skirts. There's no wax or coating that can keep UV from oxidizing gel coat.

I just got finished wet sanding and polishing my '98. I put the cquartz on it and I guess we will see if the snake oil does anything. I will post later in the season how it does.

If the ceramic is a lifetime application and I dont have to worry about waxing and oxidation...............then it would be worth it. If not, then I will just stay with a yearly detail/wax

Its been short term, but I can tell you that after three weeks of the boat continuously being in the water, I see the green film building (as expected). I ran my finger over it and could literally write my name in it. Underneath was pure white in one finger swipe. Since this is my first boat, I honestly have no idea if this is normal or good at this point. I'll be taking the boat out of the water in July and we shall see how easy it is to clean up after 9 weeks in the water.

Generally if the film is fresh and still wet it can easily be cleaned off. With out boat in our lake for 5 month at the end of the year you can clean off the loose film but the gelcoat is stained and needs an acid wash bottom clean to remove it, which we have the marina do. It's hard for me to imagine ceramic coating would prevent this staining but hey maybe it does!

Wow, I'd be very curious to see if it prevents bottom staining after a full season in the water. And also if it last year after year. Seems to good to be true.

I'll def make a post about it in September/October when the boat comes out for the winter
