Absent a new block, I don't see how you structure anything that at the end of the day gives you complete peace of mind you were made whole. This isn't a normal trade in so I wouldn't look at it that way. Dealers make money on trade-ins and selling new boats. They shouldn't make a dime on this transaction.

I guess I would look at the asking price of similar boats in your region and expect pretty much that as trade-in. Or ask them to show you the deal sheets of other 2016 230 they have sold recently. The selling price on those deals is the value of your boat before they cracked it. It is what you could have sold it for before their error. It is what they can sell it for after they replace the block. If they give you that as trade-in then you know they aren't making money on the trade-in. They can incur the expense of replacing the block and break even on the sale or they can weld it and take a loss on the sale.

On the new boat, I would expect a 25% or more discount. I would also ask for a hefty credit in the pro shop. You should get something more than the "standard" discount. You didn't ask to buy a new boat. They forced you into it. Again, they should not profit on this side either.

You need to ask for the sky as your opening offer. If they say "no we will just replace the block" start backing down or see what they offer until they will agree to a trade. That's the only way you stand a chance at knowing you've gotten a deal that is equal between replacing the block versus trading it in.

Best of luck. I would be livid

there should be an ethics pledge ANYWHERE a Nautique sign hangs or a Correct Craft product is sold. Needs written into the dealer agreements.
