Hello all I have a 2019 GS22 with the pro ballast. Trying to dial in the port side where everyone is surfing so far. All new surfers using a Hyperlite Broadcast 5'4" board for now (riders range between 145 and 220 lbs). So far my best wave seems to be, NSS 0 and NCRS between 1 and 3 and speed of 10.7. That seems pretty good with 100% ballast except only 75% fill on the opposite (starboard) rear side. 2 adults and 2 kids in the boat. Should they all sit surf side? I notice much more push when the boat turns to the port/surfing side. What does that mean that I need to do? Should I take the ballast down further on the opposite side? Also I have an early lip about 3/4 of the way up that I need to get rid of (hard to see, it still looks clean but it is there. How is that achieved? I really do not want to add any lead as I will ski also. Thanks for any suggestions.

same boat.
fill ballast, put everyone on the port side. nss 0-1, ncrs 5-4. up the speed to 11.4-11.6.
we use these setting and everyone can surf the lake with no rope
i believe the wave will initially be better on the starboard side d/t the prop rotation. I think I may add lead under the port observer seat, just don't know how much. I know this is pretty standard for the G boats.
lip is there, i am too trying to find a way to reduce it. i think it is just the nature of the hull.

Same as kylant but I have 200lbs of lead with another 150 on the way. I put 150 in observers compartment and 50 in the bow walk way. I will be putting the next 150 all in the bow and will see how that works. We usually only have 4 of us out and the extra weight doesn't affect the ski wake all that much. We are finding this wave likes more speed and have been surfing around 11.2 to 11.6 mph. My youngest son likes the speed around 10.8 and the wave really comes back to the boat at that speed. We run NSS at 0 and NCRS at 4 or 5. Anything less and the wave looses a lot of push.

did you find the 150# under the observer seat was the right amount to counter the lean/prop torque?
thanks

Have 2018 GS22. At first we were more concerned with setting up wave than learning how to surf. Best thing we did was go back to factory and hold rope longer. 5’ 4” board may be too large for smaller riders. Maybe take middle fin out. All that said surf can be dialed by rider preference from there. Everyone might like a little different depending on style and strengths/weaknesses.

I have the 2017 gs 22 we have struggled with set up as well I have factory balllast and 450 of lead I move around some days we have a boat load 8 kids 3 or 4 adults boat seems so weight sensitive if some one sits in rear seats that messes the wake shortens it badly not impressed with the lip in the middle either to the point now looking at other boats lots have looked for help on here and no two people seem to run same setups

Hey there we have a 2018 GS22 ( with ZR4 engine) and I added Wakemakers ballast bags to factory system to add another 800 lbs each side , we normally have 3-4 adults and. 4-5 kids on the boat. NSS at 0 and NCRS at 2-3 which with the added ballast seems to make a longer wave as compared to higher NCRS setting . That being said I still find the wave on GS boats not nearly as good as wave on G boats which I suppose one should expect seeing as it’s a crossover / compromise ski/ wakesurf boat. Also there are times when on the same day with the same setting the wave just will not clean up and the motor has a hard time getting boat to 11.2 mph! Has anyone else used the wakemakers ballast bags tied into factory ballast?

yes lowering NCRS makes the wave longer. we have noticed the lip size reduces with lower settings as well.
we have surfed 0,0 even. speed is key on this boat. we have found it really likes to be at about 11.5mph
the wave will not be "G" like, but very good. I have never surfed a G, but I can surf this GS all day.
IMO, I feel the ZR4 is way underpowered for this boat. I had one in my GS20 and hated it. I now have the H6 and have no worries. Just yesterday, we had 5 adults (one #260, one #205) and 3 kids, full ballast, 200# of lead (100# under observer seat, 100# in bow), and a full tank of gas. H6 has no problems with power. And I am 6300ft elevation.

Thanks Kylant , good point about the ZR4 I feel it is underpowered especially with all the extra ballast we are running. Wonder what a engine upgrade costs? just to clarify what you said - so you make a slight turn to the wave side of the boat while surfing to make a longer wave section ?

Making a very slight turn towards surf side cleans up the wake. doesn't make it longer. just a very slight turn, just enough where you can't tell you are turning unless you look behind you hand see a slight bend in your trail
