looking to order 2007 ski206 team

Hi, newbie here. I live in Washington State married 2 kids 16 and 13. This would be my first boat although I have been around boats all my life. Looking for a rec ski and wakeboard boat, cruising and tubing. Do you all think that this would be a good all round boat for what I want it to do. I also want direct drive. Would be adding as options 330 hp motor, tower and hydo-gate with sport shift. Thanks in advance for you input and help.

You'd be better off going with a 216 for the room. You are going to feel cramped with teenagers on the boat.

I'M ON MY SECOND 206. HAD A 2004 206 AND CURRENTLY HAVE A 2006 206 LTD WITH TOWER, GATE, PERFECT PASS AND LOVE IT. I HAVE THREE KIDS (AGES 14, 16 AND 18) AND TYPICALLY HAVE AT LEAST 6-8 ON BOARD. WITH THE TOWER, I DO NOT FEEL IT CRAMPED. I PREFER THE DIRECT DRIVE AND WAKE SIZE FOR SLALOM -PLUS THE BOAT IS A PLEASURE TO DRIVE. ---I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE BOAT.

The 206 is a great boat, but also check the 216 for a bit more room. Go for sure with the 330 Excalibur. Perhaps look for a Team Edition package if you go for a tower. The Team Edition comes with tower, ballast tanks, nice stereo, perfect pass (a must) and much more standard.

I would also agree with the 216 option. It's got a much larger trunk for storage of jackets and such. It comes in very handy when the boat is crowded.

If all you are doing is 'rec' skiing and nothing much more hardcore, definately go with the 216. It is much roomier than the 206 and you will see a lot more storage, esp. in the rear trunk. The bow is large and long enough to lie down more comfortably than some short v-drives (211 IMHO). With the tanks filled, you will get an ideal wake for beginner-intermediate riders, which I'm assuming is what your fam does since you're not interested in a v-drive; and with them empty, you will also be very satisfied doing your recreational skiing.

Neither the 206 nor the 216 will be great for 'cruising', thats not what they're made for. They both have very shallow hulls, and will not compete with the bigger and heaver v-drives in rough water. But, nonetheless, the 216 will be slighly easier in the chop.

And also, the hydrogate isn't offered on the 216, but not once had I wished my fam's boat had one. Unless you trick ski, I see no reason for one on the 216. The 216 never porpouses (sp?) and impresses everyone w/ its NO bow rise. Unless you trick ski, I wouldn't sweat over the hydrogate.. good luck...

I would agree with Austin. I looked at the 206 and the 216. I didn't want to lost direct drive. The nice thing with the 216 is you pack 8 in there (it'll hold 10) and you still have lots of room to move around. Anytime you go up to the limit people wise you don't have room to move around. The 206 gets a little tight with 8 though doable. The 216 is truly a "two family" boat. Plus I've got two pairs of combo skis, 5 life jackets, and three ropes, all in the trunk. Boards on the tower, tubes under the bow cushions (tons of room) and your set. As far as slalom skiing, it's not bad with a couple people in it, granted it's not a ski but you have to compromise somewhere.

I'd at least demo one and see what you think.

Thanks, for all the info it is greatly appreciated. I thought I was set on the 206, now you have me thinking I might want the 216. The boat would be used primarly on a big lake that can get pretty rough at times. Thanks again for all your input.

I love my 206 but it's definitly not for a big lake that gets rough at times.

Looks like the general opinion is go with the 216 as it is a bit bigger boat than the 206 and will most likely be a little better in rough water. So who has a 216 team with tower and ballast and are you happy with it? Thanks.

My fam does... we've had it since '04--loaded, even got the ZR6. There has not been one moment when anyone in our family regretted the 216 for a 210, 211, or 206. We are basically in the same boat as you are as for skill wakeboarding, so there is no problems with the non-pro-wake size. Most of what we do is hydrofoiling, and a huge wake isnt as necissary for that as it is for wakeboarding. So, again, no problems with the wake not being huge.

Besides wake, I have found that I can fit more people comfortably in the 216 than most V-Drives. I spend a lot of time in a 211 and in a MC 205V (new X1), and most of the time there has been more real seats for everyone in our 216. I think unless you are a hardcore slalom skier or wakeboarder, or tend to take at least 8 people out on the lake with luggage for each person, than I'm sure you'll be happy w/ it. Next step, just test drive it. Not by yourself, but w/ your whole family and as many people as possible... if you can.. good luck
