Master Craft 05 vs Correct Craft 97...?

A friend of mine owns a 2005 Master Craft Pro Star190 and he took me out skiing. I had big problems with his wave, feeling it far higher than behind my boat. I own a 97 Ski nautique. He has a tower on his boat and also uses it for wakeboarding. I thougt that a 05 hull should be better than a 97, so how can this be explained....? He wants to sell me his boat, but I don't know if I should better stick with Correct Craft ....Please prevent me from buying a good looking, but perhaps "not so good for skiing"-boat.
(World recordvs world champion tow boat)
    Thanks

I'd stick with the '97, too many reasons to even start listing. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I'm surprised the MC wake is that noticeable, what speed are you skiing and what line length?

I think the weight of the tower makes a big difference. I've heard lots of folks say the 206 wake is excellent, but I've definitely got a substantial bump behind my 206 at 15 off 34 mph. (boat unloaded, no water in the ballast tanks, no water in the bilge, driver and observer only) It's not unmanageable, but definitely takes some getting used to. I've even noticed a difference in the bump when the fuel tank is empty vs. full. I'm sure the towers extra weight is giving me more of a bump than a 206 without the tower. This boat is so weight sensitive.

Having said all that - I wouldn't trade it though, the tower makes being on the water with all your gear soooo much easier, and wakeboarding would suck without it.....

I have skied behind an X7, which is the 197 with a tower and a ballast tank or two. The ballast was empty, and the ski wake was great. This was an 04 or 05, not sure, but it shouldnt matter, no changes in the hull for either year. I thought the wake was actually softer then my 99' ski, and I didnt notice it being any larger by any means.

I'd stick with the 97 SN. I ski behind a 2004 197 on a regular basis. Nice boat but the wake behind my 196 is nicer. The pull is easier as well.
