Going to check out a 01 SAN - What to look for?

    Hi everyone,

I'm finally in a position to buy my first wakeboard boat but coming from an i/o I'm worried I'm going to miss something when I go look at this boat. I've done a search and already picked up a lot of useful info, but I was wondering what you all thought of this particular boat and if the price is in line with where it should be? Any particular quirks on that year SAN? Thanks for any input!

https://www.autotrader.ca/go/19-11166956 - price is just over 21k USD

First impression is good, I don't see anything in those pics that really bothers me. The factory gauges have clearly been replaced, which is good because otherwise you'd be doing it. That's probably why it shows just 200 hours, that would be only since the gauge replacement. The perfect pass *might* have a more accurate hour count, but that can be reset, too.

Of course you're going to make sure all the things work like they should - pumps, lights, blower, heater/shower (if equipped), stereo. A water test is a must, too, in my opinion. Check the fluids after it's been run in the water for a bit.

Overall, it looks like a decent price if it's as good in person as it looks in the mediocre pics.

Looks nice, and those boats seem to maintain a strong market. You could make sure the steering is nice and smooth. At that age, if it hasn't been done yet - the steering cable might be due for replacement. A bit of a headache to do yourself, and I'm sure dealers probably charge an outrageous amount to have it done. Wouldn't be a deal breaker, but just something to check.

Agreed. This boat has clearly not been abused. The vinyl looks very, very good. Examine the prop closely. Wiggle the rudder to make sure it isn't loose. Just do a very good overall inspection.

It's a nice looking boat. Someone took very good care of it.

Figured I would chime in, boat looks pretty good condition, having the gauges replaced makes true hours hard to tell, because this boat is def at the high end of retail price

            Update I’m sorry I saw 27000 price tag, if it’s 21k that’s a good buy for sure

Strut bearing, strut bearing, strut bearing! When you are under the boat and you try to shake the prop up/down/left/right there should be zero movement! If there is, the strut bearing needs to be replaced. To replace that bearing requires the removal of the prop shaft. If buying from a dealer, make sure they pay for that repair as it is absolutely necessary. It’s just a normal maintenance item is that often overlooked and very important to the longevity of the drivetrain and prop shaft. Also check the rudder. Again, if there is a lot of play, the packing needs to be replaced.
