    Washing green algae off hull

This is probably a stupid question but does anybody know if diluted muriatic acid is safe to use on the hull of a 2019 G23 that has the green algae from a freshwater lake built up on it? If not your attic acid then what works best? I can use regular boat wash but I have to scrub and scrub and scrub. If that's what it takes then that's fine I just was hoping there was a little bit of an easier option. I've gone through three car wash brushes and I've barely even scratched the surface.

I have found that wiping the water line down when you pull the boat...meaning immediately at the ramp while still wet, helps a whole lot in knocking down the amount of work. Especially true if you have a good coat of wax on the boat.

I'm pretty sure his boat was left in the water for weeks or months straight. Even if you never wipe it down from the water-line down, you won't get algae growing on the hull. It'll just be dirty.

I agree with use of toilet bowl cleaner - $1 store basic, or hull cleaner.

Our boat was left in the water at the dock used daily for 2 weeks. Green slime formed. I used a capful of muriatic acid with water in a spray bottle. Sprayed on. Left for 30 seconds. Scrubbed with a brush with hull cleaner and it came off immediately. Hull looks shiny new now. Thjs is what our dealer recommended and said is how they clean boats in the fall.

FSR (Fiberglass Stain Remover) is basically Oxalic Acid and isopropyl alcohol in a gel. Brush it on, let it sit for a few minutes, wash it off. It works on lots of things, even rust stains. I have used this with a pressure washer and some hand washing with pretty good results. But it sounds like muriatic acid works well as well.

There is a product called “On Off”. It’s a hull cleaner and works very well.

Seems odd something would stick to the gelcoat on a 2019 in only 2 weeks that wouldn't wash off easily. I leave my 2017 boat in the water for about a month and pull it out to dry for a couple days and to wash/detail and the scum line down washes off easily with regular car wash and a mitt or brush.
A boat that new still has a natural gelcoat repellent, use of "hull cleaner" products with the acids will strip that though and expect your hull to get scummy even faster and worse after using it.
