I don't know much about other people's normal use of their boat, but my G23 sees WAY more load when wakeboarding than when surfing. But I do both at 100% ballast. When surfing I'm barely turning 3500 rpms. Pushing about 4k+ when boarding. One thing I do love about the G23 though is that you don't have to list it. I was always worried about oil starvation on my older boats that had to be listed to surf. Also, the 120 days is most certainly a precaution for worst case scenario of a boat that sits in/over the water all the time. The moisture in the air can cause condensation throughout the boat including into the oil. Most people only think about the oil life in terms of hours or miles. But even in a car, the oil has a certain "shelf life" one could say. Most car manufacturers recommend changing the oil XX # of miles or at least once a year, whichever comes first. I for one have no problem with the 120 days as I usually average 2-3 oil changes a year. I bought my boat to use it!

Thanks though Jeff for posting this! I was just searching last night which oil to use since I'm due for a change and I knew the dealer had been using Rotella T4 15w40 but also knew there were discussions on the fact that this oil didn't quite meet the original manufacturer recommendations. This is good to know, also because the Dexos 2 5w30 is fairly easy to find and not too costly!

I have been using Mobil 1 in my cars and boats since 1977 when it first came out 5w30 6000 miles in cars 15w50 50 hours in boats . I am pushing 1200 hours in my 08 with 5.7 no issues yet. Wife's Lexus has 270000 miles no engine trouble yet

whoa, full ballast for wakeboarding, are you doing triple inverts or 1260s, how long do you stay in the air with such a massive wake?

Not sure why the smart *** comment... I was just mentioning that because a lot of people were commenting on the load surfing puts on the boat with full ballast (one person stated it was more load than wakeboarding)...when it is no where near as bad as the load it puts on the boat wakeboarding at full ballast. If some are seeing more load from surfing than they are from boarding, then they must not be boarding at 100% ballast (or more, I do have some extra sacs for when there are only 2-3 of us in the boat).... but congrats to you there keyboard warrior!

              Yep, I too would like a non-blurry copy...I can't find either.

I am a bit surprised. So I am supposed to quit using dino 15w40 for my 2014 g21 with zr409 and move to 5w30 dexos 2? After all these years...of them saying 15w40...

Do they say synthetic only? or is it only available in synthetic? Not that I care, but curious.

Hey do not take that the wrong way, congrat to you if you are able to handle full ballast G23 wakeboard. I do have a G21 and just starting to add some ballast to increase the size of the wake and not only balancing the wake. I only know of pros wakeboarding with full ballast, so against congrat. I am genuinely interested to know how much time in the air you gain doing so.

Just because it is nice when people stand up for me. I gotta stand up for Beg4wake... It is kind of a smart *** comment you made. And the fact that you say you genuinely interested to know how much time in the air you gain means you are still a smart ***...even after being called out...

the point is that he "did not take it the wrong way". it was in fact a smart *** comment...own it...

p.s. if you "only know of pros wakeboarding with full ballast" then you should get out more...

**** their is some super sensitive people in here today. I think xxrb was asking a serious question. I Have asked many Gboat owners over the years how much ballast they run boarding and none of them have ever told me 100 percent either. Gboat wake is a mountain even with no ballast. I have to throttle down everytime I pass by a gboat wakeboarding because it feels like it’s going to split my 205v in half when I cut through its wake. Now back on topic. Even Indmar recommends 30 hour oil changes too if your loading your boat.

All PN drama aside, I was just originally saying it seems crazy to mandate oil changes be at 120 days even if there are no hours recorded. That means change your oil in April and don’t use your boat until August and have to change it again without using it is stupid. Especially if it affects a warranty. On its face, it appears to be a technical warranty escape excuse for PCM.

It says to use Mobil 1 5W-30 synthetic right on my engine, and is called out by name in the owners manual. Always used it and it is 2Dexos labeled, so good to go.

What I am going to do is switch to the K&N or Mobil 1 oil filter - same internals.

I don't think there's a topic that elicits any MORE drama on this forum than "Which oil should I use?" Every time it comes up here, I go into total cringe mode because I know it's going to erupt into yet another religious war.

And yet, in the 20 years I've owned a Nautique, I've never, ever seen a credible account of "My engine blew up because I ran the wrong oil." I've never heard this story from the mechanics or service managers at WLM or any other dealership as far as that goes. In fact, I've never seen a credible account of it from Mastercraft, Malibu, or Centurion either.

I do my own oil changes, just as many of you do. When it comes to "which oil" I simply ask the Service Manager at WLM what they're using. If it's good enough for them, it's good enough for me.

I’ve used Mobil 1 5-30 synthetic in my G since it’s first change. Guess I was ahead of the curve. Lol
