    09 216v whine

Hi, I’m looking at a 216v with about 240 hours on it. Took it for a test run and it runs great. I do hear a whine which sounds like it’s coming from the engine or transmission. Is this normal? I only hear the whine around 20mph or between 1500-2500 RPM. I don’t hear any grinding and engagement is smooth. Maybe it’s just me thinking something wrong or it’s just normal. Any advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

If you do a search on here for "engine whistle" you will find several threads on it. My 216V with the 343 did it. It was repaired under warranty. They add a PCM supplied gasket to some intake and problem solved.

This should be an easy fix. If you're buying from a dealer I would demand they install the gasket and confirm the whistle is gone before closing on the sale. It can definitely be annoying

Thanks for the help. I am buying it from a dealer so I sent them and email and PCM one. I will keep you all updated.
            Thanks, Dave

2 other possibilities I would suggest:
1). The cutlass bearing could be worn due to engine alignment being off, this can cause a whine at certain rpm's.
2). Also, its possible its "prop sing" which also sounds like a whine. Basically if that prop was ever repaired/reconditioned, it can make a whine sound since they sand off the blades some to balance it and when they sand off the factory ridges it can do that. I have an 1847 repaired prop as a spare and it will make that whining sound between 1200-1500 rpm. If I put the exact same prop on the boat that has never been worked on and the factory ridges are all still there, the noise is gone. (Also some info saying that you may be able to fix by making sure the trailing edges of the prop are squared off and not rounded), I personally wont do that to my prop tho since if you dont do it perfectly you could throw the balance of the prop off.

Does anyone have the part number from PCM for this part? Dealer is saying they are unsure of this fix.

Dealer got ahold of PCM. PCM sent the part over and totally fixed the whine. Thanks so much for the help!!!
