    Board Storage

I'm planning to invest in some higher quality surf boards for next summer and want to find a better /safer way to store them on the boat than in the stock boardracks with bungee.

Considering adding surf pockets to existing bimini or replacing with newer model with surf pockets vs replacing the boardracks with newer, strapless model (? roswell triton).

Bimini option would be less expensive but I've read of issues with sun / heat and effect on boards. Would only add storage for 2 boards.

New racks would clearly be more money, but nice upgrade from a functionality viewpoint.

Can anyone weigh in on pros/cons of above?

I agree with your surf pocket statement. I have several high end boards and I have the strapless racks. Even in the strapless racks, they are prone to black rubber scuffs from the racks and getting cooked if left on the racks in the sun. I leave them in the straless racks but not in direct sunlight for any lenght of time. If not in the racks I have the board socks which I leave on the boards in the back stern boat lockers

We keep 6 or more custom boards on our boat at all times. Custom boards are light and provide fantastic performance but are very fragile. In addition they expand significantly when left in direct sunlight. It is not advisable to put them in any rack or in surf pockets for more than an hour or so on a sunny day. So what to do? We double bag with board socks every board and keep them in the rear lockers of our G. Place them in nose first and fins toward the engine. You can also purchase padded board bags from Ronix, Hyperlite, or Liquid force. These bags have great padding and provide extra protection.

We have done this for five seasons without an incident. Every competitive surfer we know with a G stores boards this way.

One thing I will add; if you have the GoPro mount option you have thru-hull fittings in the rear of your lockers. Make sure you cover these fittings with closed cell foam because they can damage your boards. I secure the padding with zip ties.

Here is a pic of my wife's and my daughters custom boards in the G locker.

That would be ideal but not enough space in my 230. I use board socks already. Anyone without a G have any recs?
