I wish PCM would bring back the Python. With the way CC boats are getting bigger and bigger, I think there could be some real advantages to a 425 HP engine option. Anyone have any thoughts?

Yeah, and Pleasurecraft still makes the engine in Crusader form, just not in PCM form, so we can't get it in our boats!

when i was boat shopping i was informed to avoid the python by dealer---they told me they work on them waayy more than the 5.8 and 5.7s----
if they they were dependable i would want one!! the bigger motor would work less, last longer and do better on fuel IMO--2008 SANTE 220 (current)

Wouldn't be a bad option if they could put a muffler system on it. IMO, the sound, which is impressive, makes for difficulty in listening to music and having a conversation on the boat unless it is off. Make is as loud as a GT40 and it would be great!2001 Air Nautique

As the proud owner of a Python powered boat, I would view very favorably on the addition of big block power to the CC line of boats. I had a test ride in a Team SV211, and I can honestly say that boat didn't have enough grunt for my tastes. I haven't been in a ZR6 powered boat, but I understand that those engines need to be revved to make their HP advantage aparent.
I have actually been window shopping boats, and I have certainly put a premium on those models in which I can get a big block engine option. This only leaves a couple of boats.
CC I hope you're listening! That 220 with a 450hp engine sounds tasty!

Python Python Python
I have been riding a Python boat for 7 years. Got me own finally last year after looking forever.
435 Horsepower and 510 ft lbs. of torque. Come on ! They really should bring them back.
If I were to have to buy a boat I would never want a small block again. The big block works less, wears less, and does not use any more fuel than any other motor.
If speed is your thing, and it really isn't mine, My boat will surpass 50mph with over 1000lbs of ballast in it. I will have a tug o war with any other boat floating, and be the one driving forward. Probably 2 gekkos.
As far as the Python being worked on more than the 351's.... that one confuses me, and I suspect it is more that they are not being cared for properly, particularly winterization. The do use some oil, but generally we all check that and react accordingly.
One problem CC had with this motor back in 99-00 is that it is an expensive upgrade, like $9-10k but considering what you are already spending on a boat these days , it is not that unreasonable.
It's hot out, I am going out with my boat. G R O W L !!!! ~ what was that ? ? Sorry, couldn't hear you over my Python hee hee !!!!!the WakeSlayer

When I ordered my 99' Air they wanted another $6k over the GT-40 cost, $36k w/GT-40 or $42k w/Python, unfortunately my desire outweighed my cash so I went with the GT-40. Considering my 05' cost about 28% more than my 99', in todays dollars you are talking about +/- $7.7k, Ouch!
CC had a blown small block at the Chicago boat show a few years back they said they were thinking about developing, that would be cool although could be a bit loud.

onthewater,
I have two Pythons, and both are in my boat !!!! nice one !
tdc,
With respect to the noise, I am fairly certain that it is most annoying to my neighbors when I rack out a 45mph powerslide at 11pm. not sure, never bothered me.....the WakeSlayer

Tdc,
the pyton engine does not make that much noise at idle as the exhaust outlets are in the water at idle speeds. Where we notice the noise is when running anywhere above the idle range. It's the worst in the back seat (our DD Pro Air), but the wind noise up front is more noticeable than the exhaust note.
I haven't ridden in a V drive python, but I would guess that the noise is a little less intrusive because of the distance from the exhaust outlets to the rear seat in a vdrive. This is a guess, ymmv, etc...Please see 1st sentence of this paragraph!
