G25 surf waveThe wave looked awesome

I am looking at a G25 and during the demo the wave was very different from our wave on our mastercraft x-46. I struggled with the wave and was not sure if I was doing something wrong. I surf on a phase 5 trident. I am posting this question because I hear great things about the wave and I am tired of moving weight all around my boat to surf. Any advise is greatly appreciated.

I have a 2014 G25. There is a bit of tuning needed, but once you have that down, I don’t need to move weight.

At a minimum, I would suggest making sure you have 150lbs of weight on the port side, off sets prop and driver weight. This can be lead, or a person.

I have 700 in mine, but the 2014 models are 500lbs lighter.

I have never surfed the X46. But with my g25, sometimes the wave can be too tall, so you need to lengthen it out some. Lower NCRS, increase speed, or lower NSS. I find 3/4/11.4 to work well. Some have suggested 2/3/11.6. I am a bit bigger so I need a little more push.

If you can describe what you thought was different, might be able to help.

The person doing the demo for us used the default setting. Using my skim board it was hard to find the sweet spot of the wave. They did have a surf board on the board and take made it easier but I could not get a true feeling for the wave since I was unable to stay in it for more than a minutes. The wave was very steep.

So yeah, the default settings and since it was a demo, I assume the boat was full. So, the default is 5/5/10.9, and with a full boat the wave is going to be a very tall wave, and a skim board is the most difficult choice for that wave. Simply speeding up the boat to 11.5, would have made a huge difference, the sweet spot would have been 2x as big, maybe more.

I weigh 220lbs, and if there are a few people on the boat, it is best for me to lengthen the wave. If you weigh less, you can possibly push it farther.

People who have surfed multiple boats agree that the Nautique G wave is similar to the best from other brands.

All that said, please buy another brand, there is already too much demand for Nautique, and it keeps driving the price up. (Sarcasm)

The Phase 5 Trident is a high volume skim style board. This board will ride fast and is best with a flatter ramp shape wave vs. a steep surf style wave that the G produces with the default settings.

To produce a flatter skim style rampy wave with the G set the NSS to 0 and NCRS to 0 or 1. (Higher NCRS = more steep).

Set speed to 11.2 to 11.5. (Slower speed = more steep). You can also set the rear ballast to 70 or 80% full to flatten the wave out even more. (More rear ballast = more steep).

The MasterCraft X46 produces more of a swell than a wave so it is easy to understand how the stock G wave was unfamiliar to you.

Another trick to adapt to any different wave is to surf only with a tailwind until you develop a feel for the sweet spot of the wave.
