Purchasing 2006 SAN 210 - Smith Mountain Lake

    Hi guys,

As the title implies, I'm about to pull the trigger on a 2006 SAN 210. I'm purchasing from a second owner. It didn't say that it was a TE, but the first owner installed Perfect Pass and ballast. From what I understand, PP+ballast are what makes the TE's. It looks like they changed out the entire dash and upholstery as well.

He wants $20k with a trailer, which seems almost too reasonable, so I'm a little skeptical. He sounds totally legit though, and is probably on this forum. The only downsides I've found is that the spedo doesn't work, and it's been in saltwater back when the first owner had it in California.

I'm in Florida, and the boat is in Virginia. I'm planning to have a mechanic look at the boat to make sure everything is working as it should. I've tried contacting SAMS/NAMS surveyors, but only one guy surveys around SML, and he wants $540 without a sea trial. This sounded crazy expensive to me, as I was getting survey quotes for boats elsewhere for ~$400 with sea trials included.

Is there anyone around Smith Mountain Lake who would be willing to check out this SAN 210? Or any references for mechanics around SML who could look at it?

    Thanks!
    James

I agree. Price sounds too good to be true. That’s a $30K boat if it’s in good shape. However with it being in salt water would concern me. I would definitely request a test drive. Maybe someone on this forum would be willing to go look at the boat for you. Good luck with purchase. I just traded in my 2005 210 and the dealer had it sold within days. These boats don’t last long if they are in good condition.

Brian is extremely busy but he is fair and honest on price. This is a rather large lake (550 miles of shoreline) so depending on where your potential boat is located it may be quite a hike for Brian to get there. I have had better luck getting in touch with him on his landline vs mobile. SML is my home lake

That boat is probably one that was at one time a rental as most non Team Edition boats were either club boats or rentals.
Might want to try and verify such. Cannot recall the name of the place in California but they were known to sell rental units frequently but were well maintained.
