I meant that ncrs is actually turned on when cruising. Make sure the ncrs is set to 0 and in the high setting with zero ballast. Then report back. That should be baseline good. If not then add small amounts of front ballast until it goes away. If that’s doesn’t work then I’m not sure what else to try.

For those with the newer Paragons (late 2020 or the 2021s that are being delivered now), let's hear some feedback on how the boat is performing? In particular wondering about the ZZ8 motor as far as power, fuel consumption, typical RPMs, any cooling issues, etc?

I forgot all about the new engine once I took delivery. 550 has plenty of power for us but we run 3-4 people max most do the time

The engine has great power; the torque is especially stout. It runs at about the temp that other marinized GM V8s with closed cooling do, which is about 169 degrees. Surfing at ~11.5MPH happens at about 2,850 RPM. I haven't done any scienific fuel consumption studies, but it seems to be not too dissimilar from my previous H6. In short, it seems like a great power plant in the short time I have used it, especially for the P23 (weight).

My only gripe has been (and remains) - PCM has no manual for the ZZ8 yet. Absurd. I talked to someone at PCM (I won't name the individual, but someone who was quite aware that it needed to be published). This conversation was ~120 days ago (at the time I took delivery of the boat with no manual). He agreed that "they need to get this done". Contrast that with the F250 I took delivery of in December; it was one of the first produced with the third generation Powerstroke. Did it come with a well-considered, thorough manual? Of course it did. Am I wrong to juxtapose boat and auto manufacture? Clearly.

To illustrate how frustrating and wasteful this issue is, my dealer went to change an impeller on a P boat recently (for a Planet Nautique forum member here) and found that the pump on the ZZ8 didn't take the same impeller as the other 6.2L engines. This, in and of itself - isn't terrible; the issue is that he had nothing to tell him this in advance. He found out by pulling it from the pump. This all happened in a neighboring state... Bad juju.

So, back to task - great engine so far. Owners getting hours on them will tell the reliability tale. I hope and suspect it will be a great powerplant for PCM and Nautique. They seem to do a good job engineering, but not supplying guidance manuals to the end user...

So who's going to list the first "used" Paragon for sale? Anyone seen one yet?

I just got an e-mail from Ron Nace moments ago. He e-mailed me to let me know that PCM just published the manual; it is on the site now... Thankfully.

250K w/ under 20 hours. I don't see these things depreciating enough in the next 10 years for me to own one. Oh well.

I see the ZZ8 Tech Info, but I don't see a manual. Am I missing something? I want to upload it to our site.

This is all we've got for now, which is much better than before; it certainly isn't the end of the story, I agree. It has fluid specs, impeller, etc.

Are you surfing with full ballast? If so, WOW as that is about 3600rpms on the XR7. Do you have the new 18x13.5 prop or did you do something different? Any chance you know what your RPMs are for empty/25mph (Back to Dock)?

Keep in mind the ZZ8 is paired with the 1.5:1 transmission while the XR7 used the 2.0:1.
