An 18 x 17.5 is a steeper prop than the 17 x 17. It would place an even greater load on the transmission. Nautique specced the ZZ8 with the 18 x 13.5 (a much lower pitch than the 17) to reduce the stress on the drivetrain. One may be able to go up to a 14 or 14.5 inch pitch and not endanger the drivetrain but that's about the steepest prop I would ever consider. Regarding the RPMs, they are already much lower on the ZZ8 than the ZZ6 and XR7 because of the 1.5:1 gear ratio.

Ah thank you, makes sense and I was totally thinking about it the wrong way!

The hull has the same beam, length and fuel capacity as the current G23 so where is the 1500 lbs of additional weight coming from? The added dry weight means more horsepower is needed to push the boat even without ballast, greater towing capacity is required, a 3 axle trailer at a minimum and greater boat lift capacity? I believe XR7 engine requires premium which is more expensive and not as easily available on the water. The XR7 burns much more fuel than the H6Di so my $8,300 annual fuel bill now goes to what $14-$16K? Why not use advanced manufacturing techniques to make the hull LIGHTER then increase the weight with fast fill ballast?
How much did fuel costs change?

My H6Di / ZZ6 engines burned about 6.8 to 7.2 GPH when surfing. The Supercharged ZZ8 in the Paragon burns 7.4 to 7.7 GPH. These are accurate measurements made over more than 100 hours of fuel consumption. Pretty impressive for such a powerful engine!

I'm not sure premium is available at the majority of lakeside marinas either. Are people with lake houses lugging fuel tanks from roadside gas stations?

Unfortunately I won't/can't consider the Paragon until it is available with an engine option that can burn regular fuel.

I have to pull my boat for fuel. they have one pump on the lake and its $8 a gallon last year when I checked.....Thats like $520 a tank at 65 gallons....

If you have the means to purchase a P23 you should also have the means to pay it off early. If you cant make the down payment in 1-3 years probably not a good idea to buy one....At least thats how I see it....I need the loan cause it would take me 4 years of saving to buy it outright. But I suppose the flip side is if you have the money to buy one you dont care about the interest....

Id be more inclined to pay a big chunk down the next year or two to eliminate the first few years of payments that just go to the bank....

You can't order a 550 on the Paragon anymore.

The only engine available is the new ZZ8.

And I believe the gear ratio has changed, too.

                      100% closed cooling is nice.

Ok, so how big of a deal is it to have the ZZ7 instead of ZZ8? Anybody?

Being in the market for a P23 I probably should figure this out. Actually had a dealer contact me this morning on a Green and white brochure P23 that is coming available with the ZZ7....

Ours is the 550 and it’s been great but we don’t typically have more then 3-6 people in the boat. I sense that if you had a full crew and full ballast it might be a little sluggish. Some of the guys that have been on both say they like the 550 since it’s not as noisy.

Is this motor used in other boats? How about the 2:1?.....hate to buy a boat where it was only used for half a year of production. Gonna be hard to find parts in 10 years.

The 2:1 has been used in the 2014 to 2021 G23s.
