My wife was given a new sewing machine a few years ago that she had never used. I decided to get it out and see if I could make some stuff for the boat. Made a platform cover and wake rack covers. It was really fun and turned out really well for my first sewing project ever. I used vinyl for the platform cover on the top and sides and a canvas on the bottom.

How hard was that vinyl to sew with a regular sewing machine? I’ve considered trying some skins in the past. My wife has a sewing machine.

So this was just a standard sewing machine that I used: I put a #16 needle in it and the vinyl I bought wasn’t super thick. However it didn’t have any trouble when I sewed the straps on. I was a little worried it might not go through the vinyl to but I did a test run on some scrap pieces that I had before I ordered what I needed and it seemed to work fine.2006 SV 211 (Sold)

I sew a bit too. I made a blanket with duck canvas on one side and flannel on the other.
It has Velcro straps and I use it to make sure the canvas cover doesn’t sit on the rear sun deck vinyl while in storage.
Seems like on a prior boat condensation from the cover left permanent stains on the sun deck.
I don’t have a photo to share. But it is working to keep the new vinyl new looking!
Merry Christmas
