2016 G23 to a 2019 G23

Although I feel like I already know the answer to this question myself, I thought I would throw it out there anyway. I seem to be having the upgrade itch and am debating trading in my 2016 G23 with about 150hrs on for a demo model 2019 G23. The price difference will end up being about 47000 cad (35,000 USD) Now I realize the wake and wave is no different between the two and it comes down more to nice to have things and more warranty. The nice thing for me with the 2019 is the power tower as I tow a lot so being able to tow with the tower down and avoid covering it with bugs is definitely nicer. The other nice to have option on the 2019 is the stern thruster, yes I can handle my 2016 fine in most situations but having the steering assist seems like it would make life a whole lot nicer. Also the taller tower is nice as I'm 6'3" so I tend to smack my head a few times on the speakers on my current boat. Basically the 2019 fixes most of my nip picks with my current boat, but I am also still happy with my current one as well. So am I crazy to make the move and pay that much for a few nice to haves on essentially the same boat?

I personally don’t think it’s a crazy idea, if the upgrade is going to make for a better experience for you and “fix” all your little nit picks about your current boat I say go for it! A longer warranty, power tower and stern thruster are nice upgrades.

With the typical depreciation on a boat being so low, it does seem to be a reasonable idea. The number of hours on you existing boat after 3 summers seems light to be ready to trade, and that is just thinking about how much you use it. For example if you put 30 hours per summer. I wouldn’t think you would get the usage value, on the other hand if you put 100 hours per summer, you would definitely get the value. Your in between, so I would make the decision on how good a deal you are going to make on the trade. Maybe wait a year for the 2020 on trade, and just look for the best deal.

I think you’re leaving a bit on the table at that price. Asking price for 2016 to 2019 in Alberta right now seems to be about $30k difference. So you’re letting them make $17k on the trade plus whatever markup they already have on the 2019. That being said, if it tickles your itch then go for it.

The first summer I put close to 70 hrs on, the last two summers have been absolutely horrible here for boating weather so my hrs dropped significantly but not my choice lol.

As for the price difference, most 2016 seem to be going for that 155-160 for asking price, with the 2019 asking being around the 190—199 depending on options. There are a few cheaper ones around, but tend not to have the thruster or options I want. I do realize I'll leave some on the table with trading it in, but the dealer is still giving me much better on mine then a couple of the other brands dealerships were offering. This difference is the worse case scenario, the dealership will list my boat and take a set dollar figure off the top of it sells before spring, if it doesn't sell by the time I'm ready to pick up the 2019 then the trade happens at the agreed price.

Towing at 70-75mph with a tower down 2019 is vastly different than previous years. Especially if you use a 1/2ton.

that reduction of wind drag is huge. 7mpg vs 9mpgs to be exact. And a lot less down shifting to maintain speed. Same weight but much easier to tow at Highway speeds.

Interesting wouldn't of thought it would of made that much of a difference, but good to know.

Yep and you can configure for a tower down tow, even with the Bimini, in 1-2mins. They’ve made it very easy with how the Bimini locks down in place just behind the windshield.

the longest part of it is collapsing the Bimini and getting its boot on.

Well decided to go the stupid route and put the deposit down. Will bring my boat to them next week to go up on consignment until end of boat show season!

WOW, great looking boat. Really like that color combination. Good choice, I am sure you will be happy with it all next summer, and the next... Being in Canada, I am sure you will have your wet suit out on the boat as early as possible. I would.
