    Trade on 2020 G23

I bought a 2020 Malibu 23 LSV. It has 30 hours on it, but have ridden on two G23s now and thinking I made a mistake. MSRP on my Malibu was 168k. What are the chances I could get around 115k on trade, and in to a G23 optioned as below for around 150k before tax? I am treating the two transactions separately, so 115k doesn't/shouldn't factor in to the 150k before tax for the G23 below.

Seems like 150 very very unlikely with virtually all options... maybe no options. 166 is base msrp, with those options you are over 200 msrp. NautiqueÂ’s donÂ’t have giant discount off msrp like MalibuÂ’s.

I left off the two really big ones (engine and steering thruster), but yeah, most options. On Malibu 29-30% can be had any time. 31-32% if you really try or catch them at the right time. Seems like 20 is more then norm with Nautique. So that puts me around 160k before tax if the options listed on the Dealer Cost site are close.

Even 160 with those options and trailer probably not included seems like a great price... Roughly based on last year’s pricing I think your up in the 210-220 msrp range.

Also, fwiw 20% doesn’t seem like the norm, but maybe could get in right scenario in the price asking threads.

I think some where around 16-18% off MSRP is more common than 20% on Nautiques. I know a few people will mention how they got 25-30% off on a Nautique, but I can promise you that is a rare exception and not the norm.

The margin percentage between the two brands is almost identical, so discounts will be fairly close, if you go by an overall average, and with all factors considered. A 30% discount on a Malibu is sometimes achievable, sure, but it isn’t the norm. Same with a Nautique.

With all of that considered, asking on a forum isn’t going to help you much. It is going to come down to the dealer. Pricing will vary quite a bit depending on dealer and region.

The trade value will be easiest to figure out, because the dealer will be more likely to follow book value. A 2020 LSV won’t have a book trade value yet, but based on past model years, I’d guess you’ll be looking at more like 100k for a trade value, if the G23 deal is going to be considered a separate deal.

They will likely offer estimated Wholesale ACV on the 23 LSV, and then cross their fingers and try to sell it for 115ish. It is highly unlikely they’d offer 115k on the trade, as well as cash deal pricing discounts on the G. The 23LSV isn’t worth that on an ACV basis.

I can tell you, with "smart buyer" programs and this time of year, 20% is not unreasonable

Nautiques sell at 18-22% off MSRP normally. Like 90% if buyers fall into that range.

if you can beat that... jump on it.

now... why not consider a consignment vs a trade in? It’s winter... why not use these 6 months to your advantage. You may be able to edge towards 120s even after consignment fees vs a brutal quick trade in.

My first go with the dealer has me at 112k trade and 162k on the G. Close, but will try to get to get 3k here or there before I finish the deal. Then on to colors!

Your dealer seems pretty aggressive in wanting you to be in a Nautique. I am not sure they will bend over much more. I am assuming they are the same dealer?

You made the mistake in going to the 23 LSV. I know there are plenty of 23 LSV owners who seem happy, but I went from the G23 to the 25 LSV and am pretty pleased. My demo of the 23 LSV made it clear I would be stepping down substantially in the surf category, interior room and general layout. I think the 25 is as good as a Malibu as it gets. Having said that, I was feeling the itch to upgrade and my service department piled on the last straw, so I felt I should stop complaining and take my money elsewhere. I would be in a Nautique if my service experience were better.

In the end, it’s basically a 50k swap price. Unless taxes aren’t involved it’s obviously better for the higher the “trade” value for you.

OK. Got them to my price. About to make a move. It comes with a "Standard Trailer". Does anyone know if the standard G23 trailers are color matched? What options are on the standard? What options do the Nautiques have on the trailers for extra cost?

Nautique doesn't sell trailers. They are purchased separately by the dealers. There is an option to order Boatmate trailers with the boats, but not all dealers do that. I would suggest checking with your dealer to see what brand of trailers they use and go from there.

It’s likely a boatmate trailer. I’m surprised they didn’t tell you that and then walk you through the colors and options. I was able to pick color and sea deck color options. The only extra charges for me were the bow ladder. You can also go electric brakes vs surge which may be helpful depending on your tow vehicle. I think you mentioned you plan to flip the boat within 3yrs so you may want to keep the trailer simple.
