Anyone know what engine the maroon and white 1999 and red and white 2000 SkiFly boats were running? Just re-watched the 39th Masters and man I love those boats but there is literally no information out there on either of them. Do either of these boats still exist?

Should have completed a more through google search. Found this on Ball of Spray:
“When we started the program sometime in 97 I installed a Python 502 in a bubble butt. did three more in 98. Then in 99 Ford Marine and PCM teamed up and provided us with 2 Metric 5.4 Lightning engines we ran those for three seasons until in 2002 we ran supercharged 6.0 LS engines till the end of the ski fly run.” Jody_Seal
As of September 2018, one of the 5.4 supercharged boats is still around and skies regularly out in Michigan.Last edited by dhmcfadin; 12-21-2019, 11:39 AM.

Here's why I am asking. I am trying to estimate what type of speed I will get out of the longhorn boat when all said and done.
The engine I am having built for the longhorn boat is the stock GT40 351 being stroked to a 408 which makes it 6.6 liters. Goal is 400 lb/ 500 = ft lbs.
The 2002 Ski Nautique weighed 2570 lbs dry. The 2002 supercharged Ford 5.4 lighting engine that was installed in the ski fly boats made 380 Hp and 450 ft. lbs of torque. Those boats could run a little over 50 mph, maybe 55? Not sure of the prop. With this combo, using dry weight, power to weight was .148 hp per lb.
My 1999 Sport weighs 2700 lbs dry but is also 2 1/2 ft longer. Consider the power numbers above, that puts power to weight at .148 just like the ski. But with 2 1/2 ft more running surface getting the hull our of the water might be a challenge. Moving to a 13.5" prop from a 12.5" prop would allow me to run more pitch with less low end power. But considering the torque numbers, I think it will counter act the prop and hopefully give me the top end I am looking for.
My, probably unrealistic, goal with this boat is 55 mph. Not because I ever need to go that fast but because I think it would cool to be able to go that fast in a Sport Nautique. Just thinking out loud here.Last edited by dhmcfadin; 12-21-2019, 02:01 PM.
