Boat colors, price/resale ability

Hi All,

First time post here. Quite the wealth of knowledge on here that I've read through in the past couple months. I'm in the market for a 2007-2013 Nautique 230/236 and have read quite a few posts asking what a particular boat is worth. More often than not one of the questions asked of the poster is "What color is it?" I understand some colors are more or less desirable, but I'm trying to get a gauge of what those colors are. Not sure about names exactly but I've seen bright colors like lime green, orange, yellow, vapor blue, and others like burgundy, army green, brown/beige. Plus you typical red, black, silver, grey. A great deal of it comes down to what the buyer likes, but that may not be good for resale. So what colors are the best and worst for resale? Maybe post in a best to worst format?

It comes down to what the majority of buyers like. I am not sure you can rank it like you requested but white, black, red, silver and grey are safe bets because a majority of buyers are ok with those colors. Blue is also a good option but there are several variants of blue.

When you start to get into green, orange, yellow and purple your starting to limit your market. An exception to that can be if you live in an area that has a popular sport team that has a unique color.

To me, just as important is how colors are paired up and arranged on a boat. I tend to like boats that stick to one or two primary colors and have maybe a third small accent color. If you don't mix them right on the boat it can look like a mess to me.

Finally colors popularity can come and go. You have seen a lot of reef blue Nautiques over the last several years and I think the color is beautiful but you have to wonder if its popularity is going to wane at some point in favor of something else. I think the newish steel blue is a good looking color and I could see that grabbing some of the attention away from reef blue.

If you're buying your first boat or your first boat of this type, go with something low key in color - whites, greys, blues, blacks, reds. If you really get into it, you'll want to upgrade the boat within a few years and resale will be important. If you decide you're not really pumped about the whole idea of this type of boating or it's just too much hassle, you'll want decent resale so you don't lose out on your investment. If you stray outside commonly accepted colors and schemes, just know that you'll either take a hit on resale or you'll be keeping the boat for a long time. Which is fine if that's what you want. The VAST majority of boats on our lake, which is a good sample size, are white with some other common color mixed in. There is a G that is somewhat similar to the boat gary s posted and it's... uh... unique.

In fact, you can usually tell what side of the lake someone is on by the color of their boat. Lots of red and black? Probably the west side which is closer to Lubbock.

In used boats, colors fade and make the boat look aged. White will be the most timeless and never really goes out of style .
