1995 Sig Ed. Ski Nautique to a 1997 Ski Nautique ???

    Hi,
I have a 1995 Ski Nautique Sig. Edition (which I love dearly) but have the opportunity to "upgrade" to a 1997 Ski Nautique with Total Surface Control. (Will TSC make a big difference?) I'm affraid to jump ship as I love my 1995, but I'm wondering if this would be worth doing. Thanks in advance for your help!

My opinion, the waterski wake for the 97, is noticiably better, particularly if you ski the course. You will also like the room in the 97. However, if you wakeboard, the 97 will not produce as strong a wake as the 95. I think the question in my mind would be how much is it gonna cost you to "upgrade" to a boat that is only 2 years newer when you already have a great boat? BKH

Couple of factors to consider here.

        Engine:

Your siggie edition has the GT40 without the FCC. Advantage goes to the 97 here, assuming it also has the GT40 since you will get the FCC. The 95 siggie owned by an acquaintence of mine would have occasional vapor lock issues on very hot days. Again, these are both OLD boats. Individual engine condition and care would be the most critical issue here.

        Space

The TSC1 hull used 97-01 is a really canoe-shaped hull. The 90-96 feels more roomy because the rear end is just wider and more boxy. I've owned both hulls and I can tell you the 97 has less interior room. Nod goes to the 95 here.

        Handling

I feel the TSC1 hull handles noticeably better at all speeds than the 90-96. Nod to the 97 there.

        Wake

At my lame 15 off, 32MPH speeds I can tell you that both boats have a great wake. I was expecting some miracle wake when I moved to the TSC hull but it's really not much different at that length.

I think BKH said it best- if you're going to upgrade, go more than 2 years up the line. Your 95 has a coolness factor that the 97 can't touch because it is a limited edition. I'd hang on to what you've got.

          .
Interesting. I've spent a lot of time in both model boats as well(90, 93, 94, 95, 97, and a 98) and to me, the 97-01 had more interior room. Smaller engine box, no eurotail, no useless ski rack in the way. I never measured either, but the 97-01 just seemed roomier to me. Go figure. BKH

The portable slalom course is my measuring stick- it used to lay flat on the floor of the 90 with room to spareon both ends. In the 00 it goes diagonally and just barely fits on the floor. I'm also not a fan of how close my spotter seat is to the driver's seat. You are right about the motor box- but instead of the eurotail you get the bulbous tail. The real killer is that canoe hull taper of the rear of the boat. The 90-96 is like a giant rectangle on the water when looking down from above.

You can really see the taper in this pic (thanks rleinen79):
