pre-2016 G23 ?

Hello Everyone,
took a season off of Boats in 2019 ... looking to get back into another used wake Boat.
After 6seasons and 7 Boats , I know this much
- I will sell after 1 summer/season
- I will onlymake a few trips to Havasu/Parker(+local SanDiego lake/surf sessions)
- We only WakeSurf a little bit , but mostly Cruise/cove
- RESALE is a #1 driving factor in my purchase

That all said
we have had 5 MC and a G21

We liked the G21 but did not like how it drove/cruised...

Looking at a Pre-2016 G23 for pricing reasons and overall quality of Boat and stable re-sale.
What are my red-flags or "stay away from" on these years 2013-2015.
Since they are all out of Warranty or close, we are looking for the most reliable boat/motor combos

Changed hull on G23 in 2016 to help illuminate the bow spray issues from 13-15 models which was one of the red flags with those years.

No red flags. Except 2013 should be a bit less expensive than 14 or 15 due to transmission update in 2014. Other than that, youÂ’ll have an amazing boat. If youÂ’re not at elevation, the 450 is an amazing motor.

They changed to throttle by wire in 2015. I noticed a huge difference in how much I liked the throttle from my 2014 to my 2015.

To expand on my prior post I have been in a 2015 and a 2017 G23 over 50 times each surfing. The spray issue is a big deal and a red flag in my option for the 2015s and prior year G23s. I would try to search for a 2016 or newer. The hull was changed in 2016.

I do a heck of a lot more wakeboarding than surfing and I’ve honestly never noticed a spray issue on my 15. Obviously it happens since they changed the hull for it, I’ve just never had it be an issue for me.

The spray issue is only noticeable when running at surf speeds into the wind.

Given this list, I have to ask: Why are you buying a wakeboat? It seems to me if you're only barely surfing and mostly doing the Cruise/Cove thing, you need to be looking at a different boat entirely. If you didn't like the way the G21 drove/cruised, you won't like the G23 any better.

Given this list, I have to ask: Why are you buying a wakeboat? It seems to me if you're only barely surfing and mostly doing the Cruise/Cove thing, you need to be looking at a different boat entirely. If you didn't like the way the G21 drove/cruised, you won't like the G23 any better.

'Tis true. These boats are essentially "water tractors"...very nice ones, but tractors nonetheless.

You are all Correct... But the fam Loves WakeBoats. ME TOO.. and we do want a Boat that CAN surf. ...
G23 has great re-sale so its a contender, and the Build quality is awesome in them.

My G21 pulled pretty hard all the time (steering). ... confirmed with others this was normal.
Did not realize the G23 did the same.. Noted...

Yea. These are wakeboats. They're terrific at what they do, but it's very specialized. Even with all of the tanks empty, these boats are still very heavy. They might be OK as a cruise/cove boat but that's about it. There are many other boats that would be far better for that. Personally if I was looking for that with great resale value, I'd be looking for a 2 year old Cobalt.

Haha. If we didnt want to Surf, maybe a Cobalt or other quality Bowrider. .... But we do want to Surf...I just doesnt need to be X24 / G23 good, just a nice wave fine for having fun and casual Surfing. ..

Looking at some used G23-25 ... not bad and prices have tracked stable on most of them.

Don’t buy a 15 or older G . 2016 or newer years is where you want to be . Don’t let the G23 2015 or prior years G owners convince you otherwise . You will regret that purchase decision
