I am aware of G23 and 25 2016 + Improvements Hull/Screen interface and Nicer JL stereos. But those come with a price atttached to 2016 models...
    We did own a 2016 G21 ...nice ...
But we are trying to stay in $80/90ks...

those new features arent deal breakers for my use.. Just wondering if there are "problems" with 2014-15 years ?

Yes the spray issues on the 2015 are terrible while surfing

How about a SAN 230? Do those not have good resale and surf waves?

Yep. Both. I love the 230. It surfs LONG with a really clean wake. It isn't as steep a wake as the G, but it's longer.

...and it will “cruise” a little more comfortably than the G boats that are again-built solely for a purpose.

I’m a Nautique fan but I think you should check out a boat with the Volvo Penta FWD. It sounds like it might be the perfect solution for your family and is worth a test.

We are exploring Possible FWD drive too... but this question/post is more specific to Nautique Products.

                  thanks

Absolutely love my 14 G23. The spray is annoying on windy days but it's never been an issue that's high on my radar. And I'll agree with others, go look at a Cobalt or Regal w/ the forward drive and surf package. Both of those brands hold their value well and build quality is off the charts on both.

                      I've owned a 15, 18, and 20 G23 so will throw in a few thoughts that haven't been mentioned.

                      Pro earlier model
                      - I mainly wakeboard and there are things about the 15 and earlier hull that I liked more for wakeboarding especially if you run extra weight. Wake had more transition and held its proportions for the most part the heavier you went, where as 16 and later just get taller and taller but you don't get the same scale of increase to transition.

                      - If you go earlier model, would highly suggest only doing 14 or 15. 14 is when they changed to 2:1 gear reduction and larger prop, greatly increasing the efficiency of the boat when pulling load. You said you do some cruising so perhaps you would prefer the earlier model with smaller prop/less gear reduction for better cruise speeds...but if you run weight you're much better off with 14 or newer.

                      Pro 2016 and beyond
                      - didn't see engine mentioned here. 2016 they added new line of direct injection engines. More power, more efficiency, more more.

                      - as mentioned surf is MUCH better, as well as many other features. May not matter to you personally for use, but given you said resale is huge consideration trust me when I say you are more than likely going to be trying to sell your boat to a wakesurfer.

Me personally if I were you I'd look for a well-maintained and lovingly used 2017. Higher hours may get the price more in line with what you are hoping, and you'll have almost all the upgrades they have done besides power tower and thrusters.

You probably saw it, but great thread here on model year changes. https://www.planetnautique.com/vb5/f...ough-the-years

thanks much for your remarks about each phase of the G23...
I see your point about the 2014-15 vs 13... I
f I buy a cheap 2013... it may not matter when i re-sell as prices on the 2013 have somewhat settled in the mid/hi $70k ...they dont often appear at less ,unless they are beat on Coastals out of Florida.

2016+ seam to be a good bit Higher$$$ with new Hull, JL stereo and better Screen Interface. Problem with 2016+ is the resale market in MUCH smaller as my experience shows anything over $80k takes patience to sell... over $100k is even Smaller market.

                        hmmm
                        I will keep hunting.

I have a 2014 G25. After doing all the detailed comparison and experience, I would highly recommend the 2016 or newer. GMLIII is a solid form poster and makes good recommendations, and I generally agree with his input, and do here. However, if you did buy a 2014 or 2015, you are still going to have a great boat and not a decision you will regret. Just know that the typical increase in price of a 2016 or newer is worth it. but I love my purchase and wouldn't have done it any different. However, I will probably upgrade this year or next.

I pay cash for toys and boats, and although I make a reasonable living, I am a bit more price sensitive that some of the other Nautique owners.

As for the spray, I noticed this the first day on the boat in the spring when it was cooler. After that, I never noticed. I think it depends on the conditions you experience. So if you are on an un-protected windy lake with the wind in your face, yes, not a great situation, but it really never kept me from enjoying the boat. So, think about your expected conditions.

My boat dealer told me what he would give me for my boat on trade in if I only wanted to keep it a year, and wanted to trade in on something newer. You may find your dealer would do the same for you. I think we have rules for "advertising", happy to tell you my dealer in a pm.

The GS boats are meant to be crossovers. They're designed to wakeboard, wakesurf and slalom ski. Now they aren't fantastic at any of those, but they do all of them fairly well. That's the whole point of a crossover. The GS line is what the SV-211 used to be.
