Newbie 1st gen G23 engine questions

Hi All,

We are considering buying a 1st gen G23 and have a couple questions regarding engines. First we are only looking at 2014 and newer due to the 2:1 ratio. We are seeing quite a few boats with the 409, and as I've read this was a bad engine for 2013, how is it with the 2:1 ratio? Also seeing a few coastal engines, are they fully closed cooling or half system? I've noticed they all have coolant reservoirs, just trying to figure out protection level and what we would gain by coastal. Most boats with the coastal are inland , so I'm assuming fresh water was their main if not only use. Boat will only be used in fresh water. Thanks.

I have a Coastal G23 2017 and it is a half closed cooling system and only used in fresh water. The Coastal also has a built in fresh water flush system and all the seat boxes, storage areas and engines covers have hinges and air shocks which are stainless steel . There are other Coastal features but these are the main features. I have the H6 450 hp engine

The 409 may be a little underpowered, but it wouldn't be terrible with the 2:1 v-drive. Remember, the G23 was originally offered with the Excalibur 343 in 2013 without the 2:1! That would be a dog!

I would try to find a 450 (or a 550 if you really want power).
