2000 Super Sport

I have an opportunity to buy a 2000 Super Sport without a tower/ballast or pp. I feel like it's a great deal. The hour meter isn't accurate but I'm being told it has less than 400 hours on it and by the condition of the boat, I truly believe it. Comes with a single axle trailer. I wasn't in the market for a boat, but at the price he's selling it, I'm strongly considering taking it off his hands. He's going through a divorce so that's why it's so cheap. Question is, what is a price on a good color combo, 2000 super sport without a tower, ballast or pp assuming less than 400 hours but truly unknown that you feel like you'd be getting a good deal and couldn't pass it up?

It's the PCM 5.8 HO 320hp

That's not possible.

The 5.8 HO (non GT-40) is 285 HP.

The Apex 5.7 is 320 HP.

Do you know which one it is?

It looks like the ONLY options for that year are the GT-40 5.8 (310 HP), GM Apex 5.7 (320HP), and the Python (430 HP).

Looking at the picture I took of it now. Clearly says PCM Marine Engines on the manifold. On the top says PCM 5.8 HO multiport fuel injection. I might be off on the hp.

Looks like a very nice clean boat. The first question I would have is, where are the other cushions? Is there a cover, what kind and what shape is it in? Assuming the cushions are somewhere to be found it would appear the value on this boat is somewhat fluid. From what I'm seeing on line derivatives of the model and aprox age/hours are going anywhere from from $17K to $25K with most everything on the higher end having a tower ballast and speed control. While this boat looks to be in great shape it also has few options with exception of that great engine, which is very important.

If you wanted this to be a surf/wakeboard machine you're looking at adding.....

• Tower (with racks) $2.5K - $4K
• Perfect Pass - $1.3K
• Ballast System - $1.6K
• Stereo Upgrade - $2K+

Not trying to be a Debbie Downer here just be aware that this is a base model meaning no tower, no sound system (or in this case very old, minimal system), no speed control and no ballast system. If any of those things mean anything to you, boats with those items would be the ones (with the upgrades added to your boat) I would comparing the price to. IMO and since those things are important to me I'd be looking at a good price for this 20 year old boat to be coming in around the $13K - $15K price.

Again, it looks to be in very good condition, great colors and a great model however with a list of options I would personally want added this is where I would be. At the low end of that price you could add the options and still have a chance of recouping your investment later if you did the work yourself, did it correctly and decided to sell it.

Kinda what I was looking for. I'm just looking to get back into it and this thing popped up for me. It's listed for $14k and I mainly surf and occasionally slalom. I figured this would be a good way to get back into it without going with a $80k boat again. This way if it sits, I won't be pissed off that a $80k+ boat isn't getting used like was the case with my old Malibu. I don't care that the skins are original to Nautique. I like that it appears to be taken pretty good care of and I can add ballast and a wake shaper and hopefully surf it. I don't care about the tower...at least not right this moment. Are the pp systems easy to add to these things?

10-12k would be a price I couldn't refuse. 14k seems like a very average price for that boat, given its limitations that bturner laid out.

I just traded in my 1995 Super Sport in August. The wakeboard wake on it after tower and ballast (3,000ish lbs total) is AMAZING. The surf wave is kind of terrible. The pocket is short and small. You can almost sink the boat and it won’t help much. I traded for a 230 so it’s kind of an unfair comparison, but you’re going to get tired of that surf wave real fast. Put some weight up front and it will be decent but not great at slalom.

FWIW, I paid $16k for my super sport two years ago and it was in really good condition but it definitely had some hours on it. I don’t think $14k is a great deal, especially if those cushions are missing. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

I believe he said he has the cushions, they’re just not in the picture. Hal2814, did you use any type of wake shaper with the weight to surf? Also, didn’t they change hull design somewhere between 1995 and 2000? I thought it was 1999. I could be wrong on that though.

• On adding PP.... It depends on your skill set. If you have basic mechanical and electrical skill then no it's not bad especially with StarGazer where you're not cutting holes in the bottom of the boat.
• On the tower.... There's a guy on here now with a tower from a 2005 SAN for sale. It has cracked feet but those can easily be replaced at any decent welding shop. It has a Bimini and mirror already and on your boat will look like it came from the factory with that tower. If you can get that for a decent price you're off to the races.
• On the cushions.... Without the cushions $14K is way high IMO. You'll pay $400 - $500 each to get those replaced. If you say you don't care about them that's fine but I guarantee 9 out of 10 people will when you go to resell. Think this one through.
• On the ballast.... Believe it or not properly installing the ballast is a lot harder than the PP. Do it wrong and at best the system doesn't work correctly (or at all), at worst you burn the boat down. Those pumps pull some serious current. Wake Makers has kits but I've always wondered why the OEMs use relays for power and they don't in their kits. Something to definitely look into and get pricing on before starting the project.

On the boat price.... $14K is a fair price but not something I would be running over to pick up. I'm with Neptune on this one, $10K is a steal and I'm heading down from MI with the Tahoe to pick it up this weekend. $12K is a solid deal and will leave you room to have a project update boat that you wouldn't be upside down on should you lose interest later. Past that it's not that bad a deal but.... you could probably do better waiting for a boat with the options already on it come this spring or next fall.
