211 vs 216

Hi from Europe..

I sold my 1997 Sportnautique with Tower last week and am now looking at buying either a 216 TE or a 211TE. I am a recreational slalomskier, started last year. I'm getting the hang of it pretty fast though. I had been wakeboarding some time before that and am now doing both, my wakeboarding level is beginner-intermediate level. I really want to get to a good intermediate level for both disciplines. I know I'll probably never reach tournament level but am happy with that. I know the 216 leans more to skiing and the 211 more to wakeboarding. My other point is, I have a 4 months old daughter and will need to use my future boat more as a "familiy" boat next to the skisets and rides with my friends.

I like to hear some comments from owners or experts as I simply seem unable to make a decision at this point. for example the midengine, as far as I understand, will ruin my roomy "family" boat, but will give me the best ski-setup. On the other hand with the 211 I'm afraid I'll be giving up my idea of a good ski-boat.

I would really appreciate your input.

I think with a 4 months old daugther you really want a V-drive with a high Freeboard. If you are a recreational slalomskier the 211 is good enough for skiing, as a matter I think CC specially make the 211 for family's for recreational skiing and wakeboarding.

Where do you ski Pim? Our boat is in Kerkdriel at the Maas.

I have a 211, I spent the first week of July skiing behind a friend's 216. If I were to do it over again I would buy the 211 and my friend would probably buy the 216, both are great boats. The 216 is far superior for waterskiing regardless of your skiing ability. The 211 is far superior for wakeboarding but it throws quite a big wake for recreational skiers. The handling of the direct drive 216 is superior to the 211 even though I feel the 211 is the best handling V-drive. The interior layout of the 211 is much nicer for a family than the 216's. The storage in the 211 is better. When my wife was riding in the 216 she asked why it was so loud when compared to our 211, I didn't notice a big difference.

Bottomline, my wife picked the 211 and I think she made the right choice for us. If the waterskiing wake is very important than you should really go for the 216, if you can keep your knees bent and suffer the wake of the 211 then you will probably enjoy it more for everything else.

thanks heaps mikeski.. these are the same sort of thoughts I'm having, before buying, but I am glad that you can confirm that it actually works out that way. I guess I'll go for the 211. Although normal priced second hand 211's aren't offered on interenet every day. anyone know a good one? I know boattrader.com and have visited nearly every correct craft dealer's website, but can anyone tell me where else I can look in the US?
