    Bryant Boats now at Buxton

I saw at the Dallas boat show that Buxton is now selling Bryant Boats. A 24 year Nautique sales rep was talking with me for some time and he said the wave is close to as good as the Paragon ad he’s surfed both. Seems like high praise and maybe a bit of wishful thinking. Anyone with thoughts or opinions on this?

White Lake is selling Bryants now too, and they look pretty nice! I haven't been out on one yet, but they look great.

Agreed! I spent about an hour on the boat at the show as I was really impressed with the features and fit and finish. Plus if it really can surf well, **** if we don’t have a surf bot that can hit 50mph now!

I was surprised to see it in their booth. I figured they would have ended up with Centurion or Supreme before those....

Boattrader has a Bryant surf for $135k. That's a lot of money for any boat, especially a bowrider.

So looking it up, the c7 is 27 ft, but remember they count the integrated swim platform in the length. So the C7 is about the Same size as a g23 in side.

The video makes the surf OK. I surfed a SCX with the forward prop, and it was really a poor surf wake compared to my G25. The Bryant looks like the surf wake is not quite a nice as a gs24, but you have the versatility of an I/O. It looks like the street prices are going to be much better that the Nautique, but the fit and finish looks similar. Should be a good compliment for the team at Buxtons, but they need more space.

As someone whose experience is limited to a 84 SN, 210, and a 230, what would the benefit of a bowrider such as a Bryant be? Seems like the cost is a little lower than a G but more than a 230, so not a huge. As mentioned I'm sure the I/O handles better, but isn't the prop still pretty close to a surfer? I see the occasional Cobalt R5 around the lake, those look pretty big and I rarely ever see anyone surfing behind them, just cruising.

Is the idea with the Bryant to have a cruiser that also surfs some?

Yes, with the prop turned around you lower the risk of death by prop. But the swim deck sits out of the water. And the back of the prop is still close to the back of the boat.

These are very agile boats compared to ours, my experience suggest they are almost too sensitive. But it is nice when you are close to the dock.

I’ve seen several forward drive surf boats at my lake (Regals and Cobalts) and anecdotally, I’m yet to see anyone actually drop the rope surfing behind them. The wave looks weak and they are happy to be towed along for the ride. It may just be lack of surfing interest and dedication on their part, though.

How do you put those things in a lift? It seems the prop protrudes much farther forward and sits much deeper than our props/rudders. Maybe I am wrong on the positioning but my G23 prop and rudder clear my lifts cross beam by just a few inches. Seems like one of these would smack it good.

I have a buddy who bought a Cobalt R7 surf boat last fall just as our season was winding down. We tried to meet up to surf it but could get dates to work. Will definitely ride it this spring when lake starts to warm up. I am curious how it surfs. I have a suspicion it will need a lot more weight to produce a respectable wave.

Yeah I could see how that forward drive would be a challenge in a lift

The idea of a spacious cruiser with lounge chairs on the back without paying a Paragon price sound pretty good but... The pics of the Cobalt R5 Surf from Cobalt's own site seem REALLY nose high while surfing. I don't see how the driver could see at all over the front at all, let alone safely.

I also am not sold on the safety of the forward drive prop. I'm sure it's ok otherwise the legal teams of each manufacturer would not allow it to be advertised, but it still just seems close. I'm a bigger guy and on my 210 I was pretty far forward on the wave. While my wife was driving this past 4th of July (yeah, I know, super busy) she went to the nose to nose with a careless boater who kept turning towards us. She made an emergency stop and didn't tell me to bail off the board before she did. I went forward, hit the swim platform, and the board started getting pulled under before I was able to jump off to the side and grazed the edge of the boat in doing so. It all happened in the blink of an eye and scared the heck out of me. I think if the prop was even closer that would have been a recipe for a chewed up board at the very least.

I think there’s a market for surf boat/bowrider that just didn’t exist in the ski boat/bowrider or wakeboard boat/bowrider space. I don’t need a boat that handles chop for skiing or wakeboarding. If the water is bad enough that a Ski Nautique can’t handle it, I really don’t want to be trying to run a slalom course in it. With surfing I don’t need glass. Nice water is preferred but good enough is good enough. I can see a potentially large audience for those wanting to be able to handle moderate chop well and still surf. Not me. I maintain my own boat and will never own an I/O again. If you’ve never replace exhaust bellows consider yourself lucky. As far as Buxton selling them, they had one Bryant at the Dallas boat show. They only talked about it to me when I brought it up. I don’t think they’re trying too hard to convert their current Nautique customers. Probably just diversifying a little.
