    Used 210 or new xt23?

So we are finally coming around in this summer of domiciling to buying a boat and enjoying the kids more that sort of thing and we more or less settled on a ‘14 to ‘16 210 but recently became aware of the blowout deals that Mastercraft has on some remaining ‘18 and ‘19 X23

So while the master crafts are a lot more money they make it hard to justify $70,000+ for a five-year-old 210

i mean $100k for a $153k boat is compelling even if it is a mastercraft. And fwiw some very critical boating friends have said MC has really stepped up their quality. Too bad they look like a marvel comic boat. Hey that’s MC too

so what is my question? Why does the used 210 look like the wrong move?

X23 or XT23? You title doesn’t match your post. The MC forums will have more info but the XT is a crossover while the X is more surf/big wake oriented. Money aside, I’d rank them X23 > 210 > XT23 for what we do. We primarily surf with some wakeboarding and just a tiny bit of skiing/kneeboarding/tubing. A crossover doesn’t appeal to me at all. If your interests are more crossover-oriented the XT may be a better fit. The only other thing I’d throw into the mix is your dealer. How are they? We’re kind of spoiled in DFW with Buxton and TXMC both being great, but that’s not always the case. Make sure if you buy new you buy from a dealer you trust to get things like warranty work done when you’re mid-season.

I've owned both makes and both are very good choices. Everyone is going to have a favorite. For example my daughter likes the MasterCraft styling and interiors better, I prefer the Nautiques. I will say that I was rather shocked on how expensive the used Nautiques are, which is good and bad. Good as in the investment you make will most likely hold value better, bad in that you'll have to pay more for an older boat.

As to models and comparisons..... This is something you'll have to take the "Pepsi Challenge" on and decide for yourself. I personally like the crossover boats (I currently own a 2016 200 Sport Nautique so go figure) as you're not locked into an all or nothing boat. That said if all you plan to do is surf then a dedicated sport boat may be best for you. The only way you're going to know for sure is to go out and demo several. Do you need that absolute largest wake to surf? Does the warranty that comes with a new boat matter to you? Are there any deal breakers on styling, colors or options on the boats that are available to you? I will say getting a new boat warranty with all the tech in these new boats is nothing to sneeze at regardless of what people on any forum will say. The dealer is going to play a significant role here as well. Do you research, go to the forums and get perspective on quality of the dealer you'll be buying from and factor that into your decision as well.

IMO from a manufacture perspective it would be hard to go wrong with either brand. Get out there an kick the tires and make them earn your business. I'd personally would want a in depth demo on any boat I was paying this kind of money for. Bring your gear with you and ride behind the boat. Make them show you all the features and how they function. If their not willing to do this on a boat that costs this much, well then they're not the dealer you want.

Lastly buying any used boat, especially one without a warrant always adds risk to the deal. Perfect looking boats can have hidden problems and these new tech laden boats can make determining condition more difficult to determine. Unless you are very skilled I would highly recommend having a good dealer or licensed surveyor (with my first preference being a dealer in this case) check out any used boat you are about to purchase. Any money spent will be worth the cost.

        Sorry
        xt23

but the question is really more about used vs new at a deep discount
i would never buy a new boat at typical prices regardless

And yeah the dealer is a good point

i would be going way way out of state for the MC as my dealer sells all he can get and they don’t budge on price

Test drive/ride in both and you’ll have your answer. Bring gear, like stated above. Dealer is important factor

I would absolutely not buy a new boat at a dealer other than my local one. You may even find that an out of state dealer won’t sell to you if you have a dealer in your area. It depends on how MC handles sales areas.

Gonna reframe my question because we are down to local options

is a new 230 worth $30k more including sales tax than a 2016 210? That’s what we’ve come down to. We are not upgrading we are taking a leap of faith that our family will love using it. But we’d like to avoid the process of buying something and then wanting to upgrade soon. We want to plan on a crew of 7-10 adults and kids. We will likely be trailering. And my door is 96” tall and would love to back it into the garage.

If you're not an experienced boater, not into turning a wrench or diagnosing issues yourself and have the cash or can make the numbers work..... Buy the new boat.

While good dealers will usually help out used boat buyers they'll make a much more significant effort with those that have purchase from them. Even more so if the boat was new. It just makes sense. If you're new into the hobby then a good relationship with a good dealer can be the difference of enjoyment to dissatisfaction with the hobby. A good local dealer will also sponsor events and training activities throughout the year. One of our local dealers offers multiple events throughout the year including a holiday party, summer party, boating safety classes and classes specifically targeted to women to learn how to drive a ski boat. They do an absolutely great job and people who buy from them rarely buy from anyone else again.

This alone would push me to recommend the new boat for anyone new to the sport.

I think I know what dealer you are taking about and we ditched our local Nautique dealer and drove all the way to MI to buy from them! Dealer trust is a HUGE factor for us!

Great choice, good looking boat! I think you will be very happy with the extra room over the 210.
