Thoughts on this 2005 SV-211 team edition?

Been searching high and low for an SV-211 and ran across this one. Interior looks like it's in a little rough condition but everything else appears to be fair.

MO, keep looking. $30K is a good price (this time of year) for a good boat. Unfortunately I'm not seeing a good boat here. The boat is dirty and the interior is not coming back. If the things you can see look like they haven't been taken care of the things you can't certainly won't be. What really bothers me is the condition is listed as excellent. Really, does that look like excellent to you? So if he's lying, ok let's be nice and say misleading (lying) to you about this what else are they lying, sorry misleading you about? And how about the hours? Not listed either. I'm sure the trailer is in excellent condition as well, right?

Yeah I know I'm going off but when I see this stuff listed as excellent.... well you get the point. Last point on my rant here. Interiors are really expensive to replace. Up here an interior that would be of OEM quality is between $6K - $8K so to get this boat in real excellent you're really paying closer to $40K by the time you get done with repairs (the ones you can and can't see) on this excellent condition boat. Too much coffee this morning maybe???? I'm guessing probably.....

In it's current condition and if it's under 600 hours this is a $25K boat in my book. That would leave you room to do a nice interior to bring it back into the advertised excellent condition and still be at market value around $32K.

What is a good way of determining fair market value for these boats along with the specific options that they have? With cars it's a lot more simple.

The thing that is crazy to me is that just about every single SV-211 I've found has been upwards of $35,000. I stumbled across old classified ads from 5+ years ago and they were going for anywhere from $32-37k. Have they really appreciated in value?!

The SV211 has been holding in the $30K range for several years now. It's a solid boat that does a lot of things quite well. A good one is difficult to find.

Honestly it seems this year everyone is holding on to their stuff and the price is really strong. My personal plan was to sell this spring but decided not to as boating is a pretty safe activity these day between the CV and the riots, excuse me the protests that are going on. Got a feeling we won't be going to any concerts, plays or anywhere near a downtown area for sports or for that matter any other activities for the foreseeable future.

As to market value.... it's just that. Anything is only worth what someone is willing to pay and in the spring people will pay more than any other time of year. onlyinboards.com will give you a good idea as to the actual value if there is enough inventory to make an average comparison. Kelly Blue Book is typically low for inboards so I only use it for a worst case number on value. Other sites I'll use is craiglist (of course) and skiitagain.com. Sites like Planet and other enthusiasts site like MasterCraft Team Talk or the Malibu Crew will give you an idea of what similar boats are going for as well.

Stay frosty, buying a bad boat or paying too much will just sour you on the experience. Nautiques tend to hold value better than most but buying poorly is not good either.

The boats obviously been sitting uncovered in storage for some time, I don't know how else you'd expect the interior to look. I'd be really interested to see what it would look like with a few hours of elbow grease. I don't see any rips/tears in the vinyl that would lead me to believe it couldn't be cleaned up very nice. I bet it could be a very sharp boat....I wouldn't be so quick to write it off.

I would definitely want the team edition and make sure it has a good trailer or the price reflects the condition. The other things to look out for with the 211s is its common for the PP gauge to go out and will require upgrading to the stargazer PP. that is right around $950. The gateway box will eventually go out its a common issue and the fix is the gateway delete and that is right around $900 too.

I was mentioning trailers in general. When I bought my 06 I overestimated the condition of the trailer. I knew it had some rust but when I got around to making the repairs it was more than I was comfortable with so when it was all said and done I spent $5500 on a new aluminum trailer.

Learn from my mistakes
I bought a clean 06 Team Edition SV211 in summer 2017 for $28,000
Once I got it home I noticed the ballast tanks were still full even though the gauges showed empty all 3 spending units were bad. I fixed that for around $200
The display on the PP gauge was going out but didn't completely die until the end of the summer. $900 spent to upgrade to the start gazer
In 2018 I had some issues with the gauges but it was intermediate but still ended up replacing all of then with the gateway delete early 2019 $900
2019 made some road trips with the trailer and just wasn't comfortable with the integrity of the frame so their went another $5500
Added sea deck I think that was $1200ish
Currently upgrading the radio for around $2000

And that's how I ended up spending around $39,000 on an 06 SV211 - but I guess its only money and the family loves being on the water.

Condition is everything and knowing these boats like the guys on here do is key when looking for a used boat. If you don't know what to look for I'd highly recommend a survey before purchase.

Precisely why I am trying to get as many opinions as possible from the aficionados on here before investing the time in getting a survey of the boat

I just don't trust anyone that lists a boat for sale and takes what appears to be no time to even wipe it down...you will have no idea how they treated maintenance on everything else in the drive line through the last 15 years and that is scary. A new interior can cost $4-6K,, for perspective - I just paid about $950 for the 3 back hatches on my 2004.

The used market is tough right now so you have to keep searching and jump on anything as soon as it is listed!
