    Short Towing Distance

    Hi,

Was wondering if I could use my Grand Caravan 3.8 liter to tow my Sport Nautique for 3-4 miles to the lake. Gave up my Avalanche for a killer deal on a Harley Davidson. What do you think, can the caravan do it??

    thanks

When I was younger we used a Caravan with the 3.0 to pull our 86 2001. I don't think it would be a big deal. Just my .02

My Brother in-law has 110000 miles on his Caravan and has towed his ski boat all over California with no problems.

I towed my 206 with a Grand Caravan 3.8 for a summer. We have to tow everywhere as we do not live on a lake or have a cottage. Towing was never a problem, however ramps often were if they were very steep. With front wheel drive on the Caravan I often had it where the van could not pull the boat and trailer out of the water and up the ramp because the fron wheels would slip and spin. So I would need to sit in the boat while my wife drove the van and use the boat engine to "push" until the prop cleared the water, and then shut it all down fast. I did not think it was a very safe way to do things and have since purchased an F150 for towing.

My friend pulled a 205MC with a minivan all the way from NY to ME. I personally would not do that, but for a few carefully driven miles, I think you'll be ok.

RE: Re: RE: Short Towing Distance

Vehicles can tow much more than what people think, if you have any doubts, go to other countries, especially those where gasoline costs twice as much as here.
Just add a good transmission cooler and you'll be fine. Too bad Dodge doesn't make the manual caravans any more...
I get a lot of stares when I pull my sailboat with my civic. Civic pulls the boat fine and i still get decent 36 mpg. What sense would it make to use the 1 ton/indecent 18mpg pick up truck to tow a 380 lb boat?
