    2021 230 vs 2021 gs22

I was finally able to convince my neighbors to go in on a 196 with me so I have a dedicated ski boat and can move up from my 2018 210. My lake won’t handle a G so I’m looking at the 230 or gs22. This boat will be used primarily for surfing, pulling the kids tubing, and possibly pulling kids on double ski’s if 196 isn’t available.

for those of you that have surfed both, which did you prefer? I haven’t been able to surf the 230 yet but did surf a 2019 gs22. The wave was long and had a lot of push but there was a horrible “double lip” in the wave. Supposedly they made a tweak to the hull for 2020 and it’s gone. My dealer will have a 2020 230 arrive in August but it just sold so the buyer may not be keen on us demoing. Thanks for your input.

i would definitely add 750’s to 230 and maybe gs if that helps it.

I have a 2020 GS22 and love it. The hull changes did eliminate the port side double lip so nothing to worry about there.

      I agree with this.

on this 230 vs GS22 topic, do GS owners find the transom seats really useful and not mind the interrupted aft sunpad? Do 230 owners miss the transom seats? Wondering if the 210/230 are going to get these in a redesign soon.

If you have a dedicated ski boat, go with the 230. I considered the GS22 and the 230 and went with the 230. Coming from a 210, I loved the performance and surf wave and all that was amplified on the 230. The transom seats look cool on the GS but I, at 6'1" and 225, did not find them to be very practical. I also didn't see a value to the roughly $10k premium but others may vary. The GS has better storage and if you don't have a dedicated ski boat will ski a lot better than the 230. Both seem like wonderful boats though.

GS22 newbie question for you: Do you have the Pro Ballast option, and did you find you need to upgrade the bags? Only adding 700lbs doesn’t seem like much, but do you need more?

i was in the same boat. 230 vs GS22. I went with the GS. primarily because I ski still. The GS feels bigger and is more "modern" to me. I had pro ballast, but upgraded to the bigger wakemakers bags. The wave is pretty big. yes there is a double lip (2019) but I really don't notice it.
I skied the 230, doable, but not great.
Since you have a dedicated ski boat, the 230 might be a better option. However it sounds like the 230 needs to be really weighted down to get the good wave.

              Good luck

I have pro ballast and find the wave is pretty solid. Not sure I will move to the wakemaker bags but I have heard it increases the wave size and push. I have about 300 lbs of lead I also use to fine tune the wave to my liking.

I have found the stock setting for surfing on the port side (with pro ballast) to be fine. No complaints. As I said in another thread, for slalom, you need to even out the weight, left to right. With only a driver, we add 150lb of ballast to the port side.

Really weighted might be a stretch, but for big boys such as myself it definitely benefits to add some weight like you did in the Wakemakers. Upgrading the bags and adding some (I'm happy with 200lbs) lead takes it from a great to an amazing wave. Generally, the performance "driving" of the 210 and 230 is aided by their relatively light weight... which obviously is counter to a good wave, so you have to plus up on some weight, but nothing like these slammed boats you read about occasionally around here.
