You will love the Voodoo. I spoke to Jeff Wahlers at soulcraft and he was very thorough about what boat, surf style and my size. Waited to have it custom made. I have been surfing since 2014 and have tried many boards. When Going out with Tommy, they were promoting liquid Force and he mentioned this was a great board for me. Tommy also taught me how to lean my back knee into my front knee which forces your weight on the front toes. Did about 10 reps with him on the 2021 G23 from back by the curl to the front of the boat. Could not do one on my 19 G without going about 2.5feet closer. My setup is 5, 0 and 11.5mph. Full ballast in the boat

Weight will help your 2019 G23. And if the 2021 was that much better than your 2019 G, my guess is they had weight or more people in the 2021 boat. We have surfed with Tommy and his family. They are very good skim riders so their wave setup and technique will be different for you on the Voodoo (surf style).
My advice is to read the G23 surf setup thread and get at least 500lbs (800 lbs is ideal) for your G to improve push. But I will say this: Its 70% technique and 30% wave so work on your weight transfer to adjust your hips forward and rearward to modulate speed as well as move your toes closer to the wave on your board to increase toe side pressure and your riding should improve.

extra weight should be added around the base of the tower and forward.

Thanks for the advice from everyone. When we were on the 2021 G, we had 7 guys in the boat while I was surfing. 1 big guy like me and the rest were about 130-150lbs. All sitting in back. Tommy was in back seat standing on platform. No added weight to boat. When I was in my G, we had three girls in bow (probably 300-350lbs). 2 girls in back and one 300lb guy sitting on my surf side. I would assume looking back that I should of had the girls in bow come to back, but I don’t always get my way. Lol
I will check out thread you are referring to. I have talked to my dealer and they don’t agree with adding weight, but everyone has an opinion. They actually mentioned taking out half to 3/4 ballast on opposite side I surf. Any truth to that?

Ive dialed lots of boats every kind and i know the G23 inside and out and adding that kind of rear weight is a huge mistake...... You would have to drive at 12.5 + mph to clean up the wash and you would have just a massive wall of water with hardly any face at all. I know this for a fact.

Listing a G doesn’t seem to do much on the push front imho. For example, People can move and sit wherever reasonably without affecting the wave. Even more crazy though is adding weight doesn’t help...
Yes, more way more details on that thread on here about weighting for surfing, ~750 extra seems “ideal.”

Greg, just ordering my new 2022 G23 with Supplemental Balast and the heavier telescoping paragon like tower. I am concerned that with all that weight I am getting closer to paragon weights and that the stock engine may not be enough to handle it. What is your opinion of the stock 450 HP motor with that much weight? I am already stretching but could possibly go to the next engine but net definitely not the Z8. Worth an engine upgrade or will I be fine? Mostly 3-4 person crew. Sometimes 8 or 9. Thanks

I just reread all of your post but thought you might have some insights for me on this new 2022 model year.

If you are at sea level the ZZ6 will do just fine for surfing and getting around the lake, even with a large crew. If you frequently wakeboard or are at altitude I would go for the ZZ8.
Honestly, I think Nautique is playing specmanship with the significantly increased ballast. That wave will be brutal for anything other than carving back and forth. With 800lbs extra lead and three people in the 2021 G23 we tested the wave was in need of toning down.
