    Boat buying advice

    Hey everyone,

Long story short our family lost our 02 Moomba Mobius LS to a garage fire in April and we have been searching ever since. We have 3 children under 6 years old and originally I had my heart set on a 13-15' VTX but not sure we are willing to spend that yet. We are a Slalom first family however we don't have access to a course and we surfed when we had enough weight in the Moomba and enjoyed that and then wakeboard on occasion. Obviously with young kids we will tube and do all the "kid stuff" too. As for ski wake I have only been behind our Moomba and my buddy has a prostar 197 and I typically ski 35mph 28-32 off. Initially I wanted a vdrive and for the layout and to surf easier but again I have never even set foot on one so I don't know what I don't know and the DD setup never bothered us, and I'm not sure I'm willing to give up the ski wake. Anyway I have been really looking into 03-04 Sunsetter LXI with the MLS thats in good shape but they seem impossible to find and I recently started looking into the Response LXI and found a 2010 that looked a little roomier than the preceding models. After spending the last several hours looking at SN 216 that seems like it might be a good fit. Anyone have thoughts on what year is best for the slalom wake for that boat. I like the idea of something with a little higher freeboard with young kids and something that wont take water over the bow every time a surf boat goes by. Price range is around 30k. Any insight or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Ski Nautique 206. Great wakes for slalom and lots of room. Walk-through to open bow area. They surf behind it!! Can be had for the $30K range. A friend bought a 206 last year for $29,000. Great boat.

It is the worst time in the history of ever to be looking for a boat. There's very little inventory and very high demand right now. Not to be a Debbie Downer, but if you see something you want that is not grossly overpriced be prepared to jump on it and be prepared to pay a premium over last years prices.

Couldn't agree more with the above. I was going to sell mine this spring but with the CV we decided to keep it. It's been a Nautique summer for us. We've had the boat out more this year than the previous 2 together.

I keep checking what's out there as I like buying boats in need of light to medium restoration, restoring them, then moving them along for a modest profit. I haven't seen more than one or two that I would touch for this purpose and about the same for boats I would purchase to keep. There's not much out there I would touch, lots of junk that I've seen listed for over a year. What's out there that is nice, they're getting every penny they're worth for them. They're basically still getting spring prices at mid summer which is typically when the market is cooling off.

Yeah seems like the market is really tough right now. We have no problem being patient and even waiting for fall. Really just want to make the right decision.
