My gripe is that NECC hosted a nice get together provided a lot of out of pocket expense of there own, provided gifts to everyone that showed up, door prices and the use of their grounds. Then while at the lake later or the next day, asks CCF's members at the reunion, whats up with his temp issue which he had before with my boat, several tell him the impellar is the issue then he goes and rip's NECC becuase they don't have time to get him in right then, but he's on vaction, so screw the other guys that actually bought their boats at NECC and where ahead of him to start with, I'm rich move me to the top of the line attitude worked great, I'm sure he thinks he was the most diplomatic person every while talking to NECC, NECC stated it a little differently before it was remove on a CCF posting.

If anyone is to blame is the that cann't read the owners manual and know when the maintance is to be done and ask for that maintance to be perform by the dealer that sold you your boat not the closest guy you where too while on vaction. The smart thing to do would have been buying the parts when you were told they couldn't get you in because others where ahead of you and gone back and asked if someone else from the reunion could install it for you so you could get back on the water. you talk so much about being rich why didn't you just rent another boat for the day or traded yours in on a new one right then and there. The only person to blame is REDELF75 .... he could associated with NECC thats why it took two days for him to buy the parts and another day to drive home and have someone else install it. far from diplomatic that jurked my chain after the guys at CCF and NECC worked so hard to put togeher the re-union in the first place.

      Red,

I was not calling you a rich snob, only pointing out if you look at your receipt, and don't see impeller, then I would bet it was not changed. As detailed as Austin is, I would have thought he would have seen one or two posts about how important it is to replace it, and made sure that it was on one of those receipts you should have looked at.

No need for foul language. No need for finger pointing, just each of us should be responsible for their own "stuff".

To the orginal question who's responcable I believe it is the responciblity of the owner to read what the service provider states is their normal service or ask them what is going to be done. And ask specificily what normal service is being performed, are you talking normal service for a tune-up, normal service for the end of season winterizing, normal service for the begining of the season. Maybe you should ask the service provider what normal service is to them and read the owners manual and see what normal serivce is for your model. Every shop will tell you what they will do and the cost for that normal service and what is check and what is replaced with that normal service, then again you walk in there like your don't stink and your loaded, their not going to do a good job and keep you coming back and milking you for more money because you have more of that than brains and can't step down off your box to ask.

This may be common knowledge, but for what it's worth, if you don't plan to change it in the spring, take it out and bag it over the winter. The blades get sort of formed sitting in the same position inside the housing over a prolonged layup and, as a result, their life is shortened a little more.

I didn't see the thread on CCF, must have been pulled?

I am somewhere in the middle on this one, but I don't see the reason to get personal and foul. I am capable of doing my own service so it I do it myself most of the time. I also have a great dealer that I trust with my boat (Hammer, a sponsor of this site) so I have options. So either way I am covered (doubly covered), my boat will receive the necessary service.

Now Redelf's situation is different, he is not a mechanical guy so he trusts his dealer for all service. This is the relationship he has with his dealer so his dealer should recommend ALL service as needed. I don't think it really matters how much money a person has, I have several friends that don't have that much money but they still trust the dealer with their boat's service. Besides, I also know that Redelf is not a rich jerk, he is just comfortable, from what I know, but who care's anyway the issue has little to do with his bank account.

Put youself in his situation and in the dealer's situation. Redelf is upfront about not knowing or wanting to know his boat's service requirements. From my understanding, this is the relationship he has with his dealer. The dealer obviously knows that the impeller needs to be serviced or they have no business selling boats. However, they are human and they probably just got in the habit of doing the same thing every 50 hours to Redelf's boat. Somewhere along the way the need to service the impeller was overlooked, it failed, and it put a huge damper on the family vacation. Knowing how I value my vacation it is understandable why Redelf is so unhappy. Luckily the boat didn't overheat, burn up the exhausts, crack the manifolds or worse.

My friends that have the new 216 in BC Canada where I spent a week of vacation a couple months ago are a little like Redelf. I know for sure that he has no idea nor care what the impeller does on his brand new boat, he just doesn't want it to screw up his vacation and has no problem paying and trusting his dealer to make sure this doesn't happen. His dealer knows this relationship. When we had issues with the ballast system he went straight to the phone and called his dealer because he wanted it fixed, NOW. I talked to his dealer, with a few tips over the phone we resolved the issue so it did not interfere with more than one hour of anybody's vacation. So, I understand exactly where Redelf is coming from and I have sympathy for him in this situation.

The best thing about this thread is that it may help another family avoid missing valuable vacation time with thier boat or help a dealer to include ALL required service recommendations to their full-serve customers.

If CC says every 50 hours, then the dealer should be doing it every oil change, it's that simple. We all know once a season is fine, so the dealer should do it every fall before winterizing, or in the spring.

Both parties have a responsibility here. Like a car, you actually have to take it some place to have the oil changed. you could also drive it until it dies without changing the oil, it's the owner's call.

Owner should know what's been done and have a reasonable clue as to what needs to be done, it's in the farking manual. If your too dumb to read your manual and make sure the maintenance has been done, then you are putting yourself in the hands of other people, which is never a good idea. It's your investment, your fun, you may actually have to keep up with it.

I don't want to miss a second on the water if I can help it. Impeller once a season and a spare in the boat sitting in the tool bag. I could swap it in 15 minutes while the crew sits and listens to music and has a beverage. 16 minutes if I am haveing a beverage too.

On another note, being ignorant about servicing a vehicle (car, boat, or other) that you pay $$ for and put your family and friends in and rely on for your vacation fun is ignorant in and of itself. I check all the fluids in my tow vehicle, air pressure for all 8 tires, trailer brake reservoir, and generally look over the treads. It's my responsibility, it's everyone's safety and fun.

Maintain your ride and it will be good to you, otherwise you will be bitter at some stranger who cost you time and money.

It would have been nice if he bad mouthed and called up and out everyone at the dealership that forgot to do the "NORMAL SERVICE" instead of getting into everyones at a dealership three states away that has never worked on the thing,

guess all dealerships should have a standing policy that if your on vacation you should have your boat worked on first.

PUT THE BLAME ON THE RIGHT DEALERSHIP NOT NECC AND DON'T HAVE AN ATTITUDE WHEN YOUR ASKING FOR HELP.
