Boat Transport Across Country

I’m interested in some of the very well taken care of boats in this forum. I live in Portland Oregon, where there are not many available. Who has experience with reliable transport? How much should this cost? Do you use a broker to exchange the money or just wire transfer etc? I’d love some assistance if you have the time. Thank you.

I have used Uship.com to locate a driver many times. It's important to note that while searching, there is everything from the guy down the street to DOT licensed and insured transporters. While being able to take low bids on shipping is nice, you often get what you pay for. Check to make sure they are DOT, insured, and read their reviews. Expect $1.50-2 per mile, potentially more if they are transporting through a lot of mountains to get to you.

Do a little search because I have posted on this twice. Wakerider 107 has it right...check DOT and make sure you are insured. I used Glide Transport, Mike Tello 312-965-1505 for 2 - thousand plus mile trips twice with excellent service. I believe Marine Max in Lake Ozark then started using him shortly after as I shipped from there. He is DOT licensed and insured. I asked and was provided a copy of his insurance and was added as an additional insured. Good Luck.

I had a hot shot outfit bring me a 19k lbs. fifth wheel for $1.50 a mile after the big shut down started. Gas is cheap right now and DOT regs are relaxed. I'd target a $1.50 and for that you might even get it loaded on a flatbed as opposed to towed behind the truck. The rub is they usually need to schedule a return load so they are not deadheading so sometimes scheduling does not happen immediately. Also, even if they have insurance on the package, I'd still get the boat insured through your insurance carrier before they ship just because.

Glad it worked out for you. Mike is pretty good at explaining the risks of improperly licensed operators. UShip acts as a sales agent of it's haulers meaning you are in contract with the hauler not UShip unless you get the proper insurance there are risks. Do your homework.
